Looks matter. For men looking for women: Looks are #1, all other qualities come second. For women looking for men: Looks are one variable in the SMV calculation. Looks can be offset by other factors, or compensate for a lack of other factors.

This made me laugh thinking about the far reaching effects. There are probably millions of early teen males slamming their keyboards right now saying "This is so fucking bullshit" whose female counterparts turn their backs to them.

These girls are attracted to him because he's a terrorist and has killed people. Their attraction to him, makes him handsome in their eyes. They can't rationalize their attraction to a violent killer, so they claim not to believe he is one.

So he's handsome to them because he's a killer, but they claim he's too handsome to be a killer to rationalize their attraction to him.

Out of curiosity, do any of you here find Tsarnaev good looking? He's not ugly by any means, but maybe the big fuss can be attributed to him being "not ugly" and a "bad boy".

I would argue that this is an example of fame mattering more than looks. All mass murderers have followings. Not all mass murderers are attractive. All mass murderers do become famous/infamous though.

It's less about looks and is more of the same weird female psychology that sees murderers and rapists getting wedding proposals and groupies.
