Masculinity is only toxic to men when they've been conditioned into women. I used to be depressed and suicidal, back when I thought I deserved something just for being or actually believed I was alone in nobody giving a shit about me. My mental well-being shot way up when I embraced the suck, started lifting, and ditched my expectations. I haven't had even a hint of depression since taking the pill.

The worst thing you can do is tell a boy he needs to open up, be more sensitive, and rely on the emotional support of others to weather his problems. Doing so only sets him up for disappointment and greater despair when he finds himself weaker and realizes that, in spite of what he's been told, nobody is really listening.

This is why men don't normally bother with suicide "attempts" like women do. When men pull that shit they only face further ostracization, not the outpouring of support and positivity from friends and family that women get when they swollow half a bottle of aspirin and mass text their friends. Better to just do it than make a cry for help that goes unanswered.

I think boys are taught to control/hide their emotions for a good reason; it prepares us for the real world and the harsh realities of manhood. Simply put, nobody gives a fuck about a man's problems. Nobody cares if men are suffering, so long as we suffer silently. So we try to prepare boys for that harsh reality rather than coddling them and hoping they somehow find strength in weakness.

Men are told to be masculine. Men have shorter lifespans. Therefore masculinity is killing men.
