Looking back I realize that my sense that I’d failed was based on how my teacher treated me. She was the first adult who didn’t talk to me in a baby voice like I was the most specialest little girl in the whole world. She treated me like a small adult instead of kissing my ass. But it was terrifying because my ass had been kissed by everyone around me my whole life .....

So not only was that teacher the first adult to do that...apparently she was the last one as well.

Also, that "one in five" figure is indefensible. But I suppose that if you teach sociology, it's fine to claim that 20% of college women will be the victim of a sexual assault. (Actual figure for Detroit: 36.8 rapes per 100,000 inhabitants in 2009, a rate of 0.037 percent.)

The author must be a tenured professor of fairytale studies at University of Disneyland or some shit. Don't you find it interesting how there is no mention about false rape accusations? This is why the author believes the system was spammed:

Lets pretend for a moment that 100% the women who use this reporting system legitimately got raped. Rape is a serious crime with serious consequences, and should be dealt with by police. The kangaroo court can still get involved if they want to after a guilty verdict has been reached. Yes it would be nice if rape victims could remain anonymous, but if you want to put a man behind bars for 10 years its just going to be a necessary evil to have to file a real report.

Did you notice that she's a sociology professor? She's a professor... Think about that for a second and then read a few snippets of her writing:

"they've stopped talking to boys like they're the most specialist people in the world."
"...makes people lose their shit."
"So, go ahead little boys. Spam the anonymous reporting form if it makes you feel powerful."

Right or wrong, her writing is absolutely inappropriate for an intelligent debate of any sort.

And you know what's funny? I had a sociology professor who was a feminist and during some of her lectures she would literally scream about women's rights and the patriarchy. And generally, when anybody presented an alternative point of view, she would lose her shit and vilify them.

I just can't take it seriously when women talk about all the "privilege" males have. It's basically like saying that the world is flat, or that evolution is a myth (literally, in the case of the latter).

Does everyone here honestly believe that spamming a system for reporting sexual assault is a proper action to take? What happened to solving problems instead of misplacing them? Accepting responsibility and leadership instead of blaming women and complaining? If you're spamming this system, you're not making a stand. You're bitching like a pussy and acting like a misguided feminist. I don't care if this school's reporting system is ineffective or dangerous. I have good friends that were expelled from my university for false accusations they received through a similar system. I also know real victims who needed that system in place. There are good ideas here, but some of you need to get your heads out of your asses.

EDIT: I didn't expect any of this to be well-received, but I'm actually surprised to be labeled a troll and dismissed. I read this subreddit every day, and I enjoy most of it. Occasionally, I enjoy if enough to comment. Rarely, I'm disappointed in it enough to comment. If all this forum does is raise your blood pressure, consider taking a break.
