I've read studies on how facial appearance affect things like dopamine release, heart-rate, etc (Basically the feel good chemicals that get released when you look at someone pretty) and the consensus is that the effect of looks lies on a logarithmic chart. This means the farther a person is from average the larger the effect, and that this change increases precipitously. Looks only matter if you're either very good looking or very ugly.

An average guy's looks wont have much effect on a girl either good or bad. He will mostly rely on game and personality.

A cute guy might coast by on his looks and score some easy lays here and there but without game he will be nowhere near his full potential.

But for a very handsome man it will be completely different. Since the effect of being good looking is compounded the higher you go, every girls heart will start racing the second he walks in the room. Her brain will release a concoction of chemicals that will lower her inhibition while increasing her arousal. In fact there's a study that prove that women release dopamine (thrill seeking hormone among other things) and testosterone (responsible for lust and sex drive) when exposed to very good looking men. And it can drastically alter their behavior.

As guys we see cute girls every day and we might do a doubletake or two that's about it. But every once in a while you'll see that girl that stops your heart and literally takes your breath away. You feel like you would do anything to have her and so does every other guy in the vicinity. Girls are the same way. I've seen a goody two shoes church girl engaged to be married give a blowjob to a guy she just met, in public, because he was so good looking. And the guy barely said a word.

So while for most men the effect of looks is negligible, being very good looking is the best trait a man can have, better than any game or alphaness or any of that.

Its male hamstering to think that looks don't matter. But fortunately for us guys we have control over our looks through fashion / exercise / proper nutrition. Also we keep our looks longer than chicks since our SMV peaks later on when - hopefully- our finances pick up.

A woman's point of view: I've crushed on men of all sizes from short to tall, from rail thin to fat, from ectomorph to endomorph and they've all had three things in common - a handsome face, a rip-roaring sense of humour, and body confidence and health. The sense of humour and the body confidence are Alpha traits and of course, who doesn't like a handsome face? I've never, EVER liked the big, muscly, sports-oriented jocks. I prefer intellectual alphas, men that can teach me something, because I'm a bit of a nerd. Really, when it comes down to it, if you're doing this for women,...think about the woman you want to have, then be the man that woman wants. If you want a bookish cardio bunny, join a library and a gym. If you like party girls, be the guy that 'makes it rain' in clubs. If you want an alpha girl, dial the alpha up to 11. I think it is incredibly culture specific. I have only online impressions but it seems like in many American clubs literally every man is a body builder, while in the kind of clubs I used to frequent in Eastern Europe when I was young, generally designer clothes and overally looking prosperous mattered more, although there were always a few folks trying to look gangsta and that included a huge back.

There are some places where even a young, like 20 years old is respected for dressing conservatively (dark blue jeans, shirts tucked in... or even suits) because it suggests someone who is ambitious, and there are places where dressing too much like an adult and not according to the latest youth culture fashion will have all the girls rolling eyes.

There are people and places with a more primal culture, they care about good bodies and are highly sexualized, and don't care about clothing it is coming off anyway, and there are people and places where clothes make a man.

So really I think you need to look around where you live, you need to look at how the men who have good looking girlfriends look like on the street, and make up your mind.

You see on the street at least 10 cute girl a day with boyfriends, that gives you 1000 pieces of input data in a quarter year, so why do you even have to ask here instead of matching the patterns yourself?

I mean if you care about becoming a real man this is the most basic thing, to learn to observe things and draw your own lessons. How the boyfriends of the cute girls look on the street is the easiest thing to observe.

Short Answer: Looks matter, and ABA (Always be Alpha)

Long Answer: It breaks down like this. Consider getting laid a game. The object of which is to score enough points to get to PiV. Now some woman score the game slightly different depending on her own criterion, but lets say as a baseline, the idea is to score a combination of 10pts

Looks determine your starting point.

If you are an 8 or 9 in the looks department you start off with +2.

If you are a 7, you start with +1.

If you are a 5 or 6 you start at 0.

If you are a 3 or 4 you start with -3.

If you are 1 or 2, you get -10.

Looks matter, but they neither help nor hurt for the vast majority of men.

Looks do and don't matter in general as long as you aren't near the negative end of the spectrum.

Look do matter because men and women are visual creatures. Men moreso the women but women do still have eyes. But where they matter the most is to yourself. If you are happy with your appearance it will come across in everything that you do and don't do. This is part of building your inner self. Eating healthy, exercising, proper grooming and posture, etc.

Looks don't matter in the sense that women are moreso emotional creatures who respond not entirely based on looks but based on looks plus emotional attachment. So if the combination of your looks, plus words, plus actions are attractive to her the looks factor may be minimized in light of your words and actions. This is the balance. The same applies with men when the amount of attitude (words) and affection (action) impacts how much we find a girl attractive after our initial physical assessment. This in turn influences how much each category influences our effort and willingness to deal with her responses to our pursuit.

From a female perspective if a man is in decent shape, takes care of himself (basic grooming), and bathes regularly (smells clean and not like BO) that will make you much more desirable than most men on the market no matter what you wear, so I would work on these areas first. Minimally if what a guy is wearing is clean and neat it is a plus. Everyone has their own style and preference, so find what looks good on your body and what you are comfortable in.

but if you are a troll, nobody will take your game seriously.

Basically, do your due diligence. Lift weights. Eat healthy and lose the majority of your body fat. dress nice. brush your teeth. smell good. All those things will also add to your SMV.

But if you did'nt do those things game would still help, but shit gets easier if you are better looking. plus you feel more confident, and that really is the key to game anyway.

I don't think it matters THAT much.

It's how you present yourself. Grooming, wardrobe, that kind of stuff goes a long way. Work out, have abs. That goes a long way.

But what is even MORE important than that, is your attitude. Have a positive mental attitude and exude confidence.

All else being equal, it will matter. But what REALLY matters is who/what you are.
