"Hard times create strong men (1920-1950). Strong men create good times (1950-1980). Good times create weak men (1980-2010). Weak men create hard times (2010-?)."

One of the #1 facts MRAs claim about the oppression of males today is the PTSD/depression/suicide statistics.

While you can't argue with numbers, you can argue the interpretation.

My interpretation is: Mental disorders don't turn men into weaklings. They reveal weaklings.

But it's not necessarily the man's fault. The conditions of his environment create a framework in his mind which allows those mental parasites to take hold.

The greatest generation's men lied about their age to go fight Nazis at age 17, came back as heroes at 20, and were expected to get a job, a house, a wife, and spend the rest of their lives raising 2.5 kids and they did so gladly.

Today, a soldier is more likely to die by his own hand than that of an enemy combatant.

Which makes you wonder how we got to this point.

Soldiers are warriors and warriors kill. When someone asks a solider, "What do you feel when you end a human life?" his answer should be "Recoil", not "I feel saaaad, what if he has a wife and kids just like me?"

Part of the problem is men go into combat pre-weakened and upon return the 24 hour news cycle and every SJW is calling you a baby killer while showing in graphic detail every school and hospital you've helped blow up and then have the audacity to say you're depressed because you're not feeeeling enough.

It used to be if a man claimed to be depressed his prescription was, "Man up, pussy." And if it was really bad you'd drink your problems away instead of showing your weakness by burdening others with your emotions.

We shouldn't be telling men it's ok to be weak. I'm all for extending compassion to a suffering human being, but at what point does nurturing turn into coddling, and goes from repairing broken men to teaching boys how to embrace being broken.

I can tell you personally, when I allowed my feelings to roam free I was depressed quite frequently, the only lasting cure for me has been swallowing the pill and practicing stoicism.

You have to control your emotions or they will control you.

Now I have tons of self-esteem, although others may perceive it as arrogance, but given the choice between the two I'd rather be a hated asshole than a tolerated pussy who thinks crying is going to make all his problems go away.
