Theres definitely something to nofap/pornfree.

I came across the material about a year ago. Was incredibly skeptical at first but when someone posits something as seemingly outlandish as "quitting porn will give you superpowers" and you skim through the comments and see that not only are people supporting him, theyre also agreeing with his claims... Well, it becomes very hard to ignore.

So I struck out down the path. Ive discovered many things about myself. Excessive porn use and masturbation does have a negative impact on many areas of my life. The biggest one I notice is the loss of motivation towards sexual conquest. Ive noticed consistently that if I was chatting up a girl on a dating app and I moved the conversation towards a sexual place, if i were to masturbate the chances of me continuing that conversation with the same level of interest seemed pretty low. (note this was before I found TRP, I used to fall into the trap of trying to sext and get to know each other through texting)

On one hand it feels like years of constantly repeating the cycle, see arousing thing, get erection, beat off, was training me to favour masturbation over sex. Id see a hot girl, mind would start going and the urge i get is to jack off and think about what it would be like to fuck her. This makes absolute sense if you understand operant conditioning and just the nature of how we form habits.

Its important to note that this is one aspect of a multifaceted thing. My low self esteem fed my porn use, porn use fed my low self esteem. I didnt take care.of myself. I put a lot of hours that could have been spent doing anything worthwhile, into masturbating to porn.

On the other hand now that its been about a year and Ive significantly reduced the frequency with which I masturbate both with and without pornography, I've noticed that as I gain more confidence in other areas, the deleterious effects of a "relapse" (jacking it to porn) are greatly diminished. Bingeing on porn quickly brings me back into some old familiar states. Depression, poorer impulse control, feelings of fogginess etc. There is also a point wherein too little masturbation seems to make it hard for me to focus on anything because my brain is just like

"bro pussy! Lets get some fucking pussy!"

In these situations when Ive rubbed one out, I notice I can easily return to what I was doing with a lot more clarity and focus.

You should get into the habit of going without more often. Look at the things in your life that you do everyday. Ask yourself if any of these actions could be excessive, ask yourself if you think you could go without. Things like your morning coffee. Try going without it. You'll learn about yourself.

Imagine it this way, you lose a year, 3 months, even just one month, to trying something like reducing porn consumption. If it doesnt do anything for you, you go back to what you were doing and laugh about the time you did nofap. But what if it does have some benefit? You just traded a small amount of your time and effort for a piece of knowledge that can benefit you for the rest of your years.

If you find yourself thinking "maybe I use too much _____" or "I couldnt go a day without ____" try it and see.
