unwillingly

Unwittingly. Unless you meant to say the authors of this paper were forced against their will to publish it.

[–]adamryanx22 points23 points24 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They were forced to publish it because pape culture.

[–]I3luee[S] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

You are correct. Thank you, will make the edit now.

EDIT: sorry I'm not able to change the title. Will have to stay like this :S.

The paper doesn't say showing interest doesn't work. It just says that women showed interest in men who showed lots of interest in them, but showed even more interest in men whose level of interest was uncertain.

[–]guraski1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because the uncertainty of a man probably liking the woman just created a clusterfuck in her head, forcing her to constantly think about him.

I'm not convinced your interpretation of this is so cut and dry. If the assumption is betas show interest while alphas don't, then it's wrong on the face of it. Alpha is alpha precisely because one has the balls to go after what one wants. Betas don't do that. They pine away confusing oneitis with romance, forever waiting for things to just fall into place. So we have to make sure not to confuse the two.

Alphas don't do that because the alpha/MGTOW mindset says, "If I want some goal, then I have to work to achieve it. Waiting around, hoping for a happily ever after is the mindset of a woman, not an alpha male.

There is something to be said, however, about mystery. An attractive woman used to men kissing the ground she walks on will struggle to understand a man who is equally attracted to her but does not show it in such a pathetic way. He acknowledges her beauty but it has no power over him. The inevitable hamstering will lead her to insecurity, which will then lead to her needing his validation, which he can then use to bed her.

What I took from the article is: betas give their all and get oneitis and put the chick on a pedestal as if she's some supermodel scientist that has evolved beyond normal human comprehension.

The way I shifted away from that is first the way I view a girl: below me, same level, above me.

Below me -> I'm baldly confident in whatever I do, no matter how weird, sexist, invasive it is. Why? Because I know that I have something to offer (my time, my personality, my thoughts...me!) while she can only offer something less -> slightest mistreatment from her and I'm off.

Same level -> love the situation since it means I actually have a discussion partner (rare among women since women tend to have boring hobbies/ interests). I take my chances but I don't force the limit to the max since I don't wanna seem desperate.

above me -> most alluring situation since getting to her means that I gain something. I'm nervous but I try out my chances (kino, power talk, decisive questions, leading the conversation/ situation) since I don't wanna be a beta orbiter. I have the guts to try because I know that in the worst case I still improve my communication/ social skills.

A beta? Below him: delighted since he feels powerful and in control-> 0/ minimal gain for both of them: she doesn't get the alpha, he doesn't get a challenge or something to help him develop

Same level: nervousness, anxiety, clumsiness, too careful and calculated -> 0/ minimal gain for him; almost 0 gain for her

Above him: flipped off quickly after first interacting since the attributes from "same level"

And the most important note of the beta: he is willing to take any of the 3!

If a chick's way under me or really annoying me/ is clearly not worth my time: I give some tries to get a lay in the hay; if that doesn't work out I just say that I have better things to do with my time than waste it with her.

An alpha loves pussy but he's not a pussy-craving desperate that's ready to do the bidding of whatever chicks stumbles in his path. -> why "uncertain" liking makes a guy more alpha :D.

Ups...a bit of a long rant.

[–]lavtxa1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

So what would be an example of showing the uncertainty of your intentions to like her?

[–]Tombstone315 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Push-pull, teasing, take-aways, mixing negs with compliments, etc.

[–]TRP Vanguard: "Dark Triad Expert"IllimitableMan2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

To me that's all seduction, and seduction is a sign of interest. Whether the person is interested positively or negatively is another thing, but they're definitely interested.

[–]Tombstone311 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well yeah, that's what the article is saying. There has to be the possibility of interest. Luke warm interest is worse than intense interest. The point of all the seduction stuff is to mix signs of interest with signs of disinterest.

[–]let_terror_reign0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

To you, yes. But to the women whose reactions are used to gauge this? Negs would seem like disinterest, the push 'oh he doesn't like me as much'. Compliment 'or maybe he does?'. Either way this study is based on the women's interpretation of 'interested'

[–]lavtxa0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I get it, women employ the push and pull technique quite often, leaves me scratching my head :)

[–]IDefyAxioms0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

take-aways,

Not familiar with this term. Is it just to mean taking away attention?

[–]dhump0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The take-away is a sales technique. Essentially you're dismissing the persons actual interest or need for what you're offering, thereby initiating a sort of mind-fuck which makes them want it more.

[–]IDefyAxioms0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hm. Do you have any mock-up examples of how you would use this? I understand the premise, but I don't really get how you would implement it.

[–]Tombstone310 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, it's taking away attention. An example is pulling out your phone and texting during a lull in the conversation, or turning your attention to someone else in the group. Best suited for when a girl does or says something you don't like. The point is to make her feel like she has to work harder for your attention by saying or doing things that you do like.

Be forthright but elusive. Don't show your hand all the time. Have your own shit going on, make it clear that you have other options

[–]GoldPisseR0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If she says 'No' , do u try harder, pursue her further or move on?

[–]Pdr_vzlr0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think this kinda explain dread gaming
