Comment thread in response to this OP, RE: The Ultimate Fighter season finale fights which featured two spectacularly unskilled and unathletic women "duking it out":

That Roxanne [Modaferri] - [Raquel Pennington] fight was one of the worst displays of Mixed Martial Arts I've ever seen. Both looked unathletic and useless in pretty much all areas. Roxanne's striking is so laughably poor that it only reflects badly on Rocky - given the fact she wasn't able to take advantage of some of the worst boxing I've seen inside the Octagon.

It's a shame but WMMA just isn't comparable to male MMA yet. It just what happens when one has had 15 years of extra exposure and development.

> implying that women's MMA will be comparable to men's if given time and exposure.

> implying that other sports haven't already tried this and failed.

Award for keepin' it real goes to /u/St-Loki:

WMMA will catch up to MMA when the WNBA and women's boxing catch up to their respective counter parts. . . Never. The women's World Cup team still plays the U17 boys team for preparation and still gets their asses handed to them. I really want WMMA to succeed, but I have a feeling it will fizzle out and rely on manufactured drama to try and stay relevant.

Award for "guy who all the other guys on the co-rec team hate because he only passes to the girls" goes to /u/zenkraft for this gem:

Like what Analog said, the difference between men and womens MMA is years and years of exposure. Nothing to do with athleticism.

Once female fighters start getting paid more, they'll start being able to afford better training, get a deeper talent pool, and start catching up with the guys.
