This is inspired by the Shakira thread, where her footballer boyfriend has made it pretty clear she is not allowed to grind up against other men in her music videos and I was thinking about a different interpretation as to why she seems to love him more for setting this clear boundary.

He could do the pathetic Western European/North American feminised White knight thing and say "you go girl, be a strong independent woman" but imagine you were the woman being told this, it communicates I don't really give a shit about you. Even with women, if a woman is trying to control you and acting a little crazy, at least you know she really does care-in fact it was only when women started to like me, I realised how fucking nuts pretty much all of them are, before I got a rational indifference. A little bit of control and jealousy doesn't communicate insecurity, it communicates "I love you enough not to let you get into situations which will destroy our relationship"
