For those who haven't tried this yet, I recommend going out to lunch by yourself one day and just sit down, relax, and enjoy your meal without fiddling with your phone. Use this time to just slow down, appreciate what's happening around you, maybe try some form of meditating, anything to get away from the hustle and bustle of the work/school hysteria for awhile.
But in addition, take the time to just observe everyone around you as well. It's kind of scary.
Observe how nearly everyone in the food line acts so awkward and anxious, like they're in a hurry for something. Most people are probably on their phones as they're waiting, heads down, barely acknowledging anything around them. No one bothers to ask the cashier or the people making their food how their day is going. It's just get in, nervously order food, and get out. Or get in, sit down, eat, bury their heads in their phone, and get out. Always plugged into their own little world. No time to slow down, take a step back, and just be present. No wonder everyone is always stressed.

I did my last solo venture ensuring I used my phone only for navigation and music. Its amazing how differently you interact with your environment; Time slows, every day takes so damn long and you're just chatting with people to keep the time going.
I even got used to 8 plus hour train rides without any entertainment. It puts you in this weird introspective frame of mind and suddenly you spend time thinking about other people for once instead of yourself.

also works in the subway. People are so lost when they're alone.

I have been off Facebook/tinder , all fucking imaginable social media actually for over a year maybe more, no need to keep track. If I wasn't a cunt I'd write a whole long post about this.
That means no need for smart phone. But if one goes that far!
At first people asked, it was annoying. People would look at me crazy if I told them I have no fb. Then it just neutralized.. Basically you're fucking crazy.
People are fidgeting, sweating, dancing around, looking at blanc screens, taking endless selfies. To an outsider (which would be me) it looks like a crackheads response . Oh a little nervous? To the pockets! To the phone!
Now, I work at the gym, there's already music playing there 24/7, my manager is a pretty good DJ , and changes shit up and throws all kinds of cool shit together. But no.. fuck that, 95% of people are double plugged in.
Regardless of me being basically a caveman I still find myself trapped in some kind of gadgetty shit from time to time and it never gives me a good feeling. I am as content as a monk mostly tho compared to the rest of the world.

I left Facebook 7-8 years ago and couldn't be happier with that decision. And yes, most people do look at you like you're crazy for not taking part in that.

Its another part of the drone/herd/hamster mentality. "Oh you refuse to be on facebook and go through the tedious and unproductive activity of highlighting your life? Well guess what we hate it too, but if you dont consume my info it devalues my efforts!"

I want to leave Facebook but you can't use Tinder and some other dating apps without it. Any advice for ways to get around this besides day game and hitting on girls at bars? I travel every week for work which makes it tough to meet girls through typical day game but I do when I can.

Keep it for that sole purpose, social media should be used as a tool and not a crutch.

facebook is no longer cool which is ironically what got it mainstream in the beginning

LOL- Facebook is on its way to becoming MySpace 2.0
My guess is that about 1/3 of teens have stopped using facebook and are on snapchat & instagram
Main reasons: 1. their parents are on FB, being embarassing; 2. their parents spy on their facebook pages; 3. they've seen their older brothers & sisters get screwed by employers spying on their facebook pages.
Once nobody but millenial hipsters and parents are left on facebook, the game will be over.

Would you mind to elaborate on your experience without social media so far? I'm only nineteen so I can hardly remember life without social media. I've been thinking about deleting it as well, but I fear I will miss out on events and no one can tag me in memes anymore.

Imagine a night out where no one is focused on pretending they are having their best night ever and showing off on Snapchat. So basically people just going out and fucking dancing and getting wasted and telling the stories to their friends the day after.
Imagine a restaurant where you can actually eat the food instead of taking 25 pictures of it and making plans on social media to make sure you're gonna have the most awesomest night ever (see above)
well that was 5 years ago. That was fun and it was possible to bang lots of girls, you'd ask for their phone number tho. Therefore you will make it now because it was possible then.

Up-voted because it's sound advice and because grandads rock.

Essentially our grandparents already knew and were taught in that "misogynistic" manner, all the basic things TRP teaches you about women. They knew to ignore them when they were being hysterical/stupid. They knew to take the lead and just watch for agreement/submission from their women. They knew to respect their fellow men and not throw them under the bus for some woman. (i.e. they knew not to be beta.) They also knew the importance of masculine places where men could just be men without the influence of women. It's shocking to realise how fucking stupid the last generation has been... though you've then got to question whether their parents failed to allow them to end up like this or not? And interesting diversion... a bit like this post.

Interesting, I have been thinking about opening a "men only" club in London... although I'm not sure I'll get past the Sex Discrimination Act. (side note: Can't believe I got a reply from Nightwing, thanks Sensei)

There is a gentleman who runs a men-only barbers in Manchester I think it was. He's expanded out into multiple cities. He was reported on as sexist because he told a woman to leave and it just grew his business. He gained more customers. So long as it's not literally a men's club like the old elites used to have in the early-mid 1900s then I see no reason you can't be successful.
While we do talk about men being a tough market to write for, men as a market are still a solid market to aim at. You should have no problem with the sex discrimination act otherwise they'll have to close down all those women-only gyms. Just don't be open about refusing to hire women or some such, just find reasons not to hire them just like you'd find a reason not to hire someone whose personality rubbed you the wrong way. Ultimately you need to do what is best for your business. Be aware that starting any business is likely to heavily eat into your own personal time. Plan everything you can before you start, because once you start you can't go back.

It's something I've added to my life since starting to wake up, and I can say nothing has aided the process more greatly. Your own journal may have 10 lifetimes of profitable action items if only you had the time and resources and wisdom to do it all, as may come in time with careful effort.
If I am listening to a successful person speak, it's the most important thing in my periphery by far. I have started refraining from notes if I know the lecture will be video recorded and often transcribed, and the notes I take are my own distilled ideas because of increased focus periods. But I have 10s of pounds of notes that I carry when I move, plans to digitize in the works

I see the point, however I firmly disagree. I have college, work and the gym to fit into a typical day. This is time I will never get back. It's our most valuable commodity, unlike money we may never earn more. Point is, if it weren't for my rushed nature I'd never be able to fit all of this in.

I get what you say bro, I need to do this too in my everyday life. But I think he refers to the attitude towards those "off-line" moments like eating or driving, when your head is screaming to get some form of entertainment because what you're doing is not stimulating enough. Idk, but this happens to me when I'm waiting for a class, or work, and I get the urge to pull out my phone every 3 seconds like a nervous maniac because I don't want to seem awkward, while I'm doing quite the opposite.

Oh, it would appear that I misunderstood.

this is such good advice (and I mean through the thread).
I never understood or believed my dad when he said "drinking is fun, but staying sober and watching a bunch of drunk idiots is more fun". took me years before I took that advice to heart and frankly, dad was right. drunk morons are hilarious.
the same is true with social media. I don't do the social media thing, but it is hilarious to watch other people do it. I will face time with my friends on my TV jetsons style. none of us live in the same state anymore, so it is required. and we have a very great gaming group on steam (one night a week, every week, teamspeak and gaming with the boys). and that is the extent of my social media. and when people start talking about it. it is just hilarious because it takes so much time and gives so little reward.
but again, watching people run around with their little thumbs a blazing ..... priceless.

I do this weekly in part of my free time. I go out alone.
Always just to stay sharp, and also it relaxes me. I indulge in comparison between others and myself, then shut down that part of my mind the remainder of the week. Think of it as the opposite of meditating.
Whether it's the park, practicing hoops alone, eating a lone lunch accompanied by a moleskin notebook, I do it without internet, and at a new location if possible, and people watch, I'll always talk to anyone who comes up, usually more than you'd expect, but overall Just practicing being present but separate.
Good advice OP, I heavily recommend this to anyone really. People watching is great.

I am big into this;
1) I dont watch TV (only films/Box sets) 2) I dont read or watch the news 3) I meditate and read.. a lot 4) I never use my phone unless its to speak to someone or get directions
Try these things;
1) Turn off all media and read IN SILENCE 2) Go for a coffee, turn your phone off and just sit.. watch how fucking mad people are 3) Cook a meal in silence
