I was suicidal for about 10 years... but I kept it to myself and just went through the motions... oddly enough.. me not giving a fuck helped propel me up in my career and social life.

There was simply no where for me to go as a man to get help. All I would get was "Suck it up" "be a man" "pull your socks up"

I constantly felt like I was disposable, violent, angry and unique and I had no where to turn... I tried "therapy" but the guy just nodded his head at everything I said... acknowledging how I felt, didn't help at all... basically he said "yes.. men have a rough time in this day and age because they are seen as villains in most situations.. and only men can be "cowards" and women are wonderful effect" etc..

Then I started reading "menarebetterthanwomen.com" and something clicked that I wasn't alone. Years later I found TRP and realized everything I thought and experienced was real and it worked. It's both exciting and sad to pull back the curtains and see how it all works and apply it directly with 100% results.. over and over again.

I have since learned my suicidal desires were a direct result of being repeatedly informed that as a man I am only worth what I can provide... it felt like a prison. I small claustrophobic cell.

Was my whole destiny of this short life to be just a slave working myself to death for ungrateful people that would never stop taking and taking and blaming everything on me?

No. Fuck that. No marriage. No wife. No kids. Nothing to trap me.

I reject society's plan of turning me into a walking ATM machine for other people. I am going to create things that make me happy and fuck you if you don't like it.

I was suicidal pretty much for two years in college and it changed how I viewed everything. I was your very typical bluepill, liberal, progressive, beta, lonely, forever alone, poorly-dressed, anxious, depressed, fat, and slob-like dork alert. My life was shit. Therapy never helped because how could it help? It wasn't as simple as some pills or confessing my "sins" to the therapists, my actual life was shit.

Then one day it hit me, the cause of all of my problems, stemmed from my poor social skills. That's it, bar none. So I started to change myself, started eating better, dressing better, talking more, getting out more, living more, dating more, and changing my political/social values entirely. Since all of these were inter-connected to who I was as a person, it was probably the scariest time of my life. At a distance it just seemed like I was improving my life but deep down I was still that same terrified dork for a long time.

My senior year of college things changed drastically, I finally ended a ridiculously long streak with women. And like magic one day the fear and anxiety started to move away and by the end of senior year it was eradicated. That depressed person was totally gone, not a shred of him was left, new clothes, new hair, eye contacts, friends that actually talked to me, and a new life.

I still think in all of it though the main factor was isolation, particularly from the opposite sex that was the most brutal to me. For such a long time in the sexual arena I sat like a dirty bum waiting for a handout. But once I finally took initiative things started to turn around. Suddenly my life had become that much more enjoyable once I decided to take control. It wasn't easy, it was probably the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. But I'm glad I did because if I didn't, I would have jumped in front of a bus by now.

The simple truth that slips through the fingers of journalists, psychologists, and other professionals about suicidal men is that they are lonely. Because they have few close friends and have no pussy. Show me a man who actually enjoys his life and has interesting sex and he won't remain depressed for long. If he still is depressed with all that then he probably does have something deeper. But the world isn't like American Psycho where he has everything he could need or want but is still a depraved person. 90% of depressed guys would be more than happy with a few girlfriends and some close friends, of course since society does not create an effective blueprint to get either the men will continue to whither and die.

The sickness of the so-called modern age of "enlightenment" is that we deny the effects that relationships (particularly sexual ones) have in the treatment of depression. Which is about a sick a lie you can possibly tell, it is like telling a man starving to death to seek therapy rather than getting him food. It all has to do with "feminism" and "entitlement" which were concepts I believed back when I was suicidal. But then that hit me too, you are entitled, and you should be proud of it. Your needs must come first, being suicidal is a lack of control from everything, you deserve to be entitled. It's hard to undo these years of feminist conditioning but I believe now I'm 95% healed.

Have dealt with my own suicidal tendencies on my own. Until I put the barrel of a gun under my jaw in my parents' driveway in front of my dad. I just fucking snapped, between my girlfriend, my fiancee, and my parents belittling me and saying nasty shit to me. I was ready to fucking go to hell and strive to conqueror hell and become its king.

At the last moment I just smiled, put the gun back in my pocket and drove to Louisiana. Threw my cell phone out the window and partied in New Orleans for a few days. Only drove home to appear in court on a case. Packed my guns up in the middle of the day and put them in a storage unit and prepaid on the storage unit for six months.

Went and bought a new phone. Finally my fiancee came over and freaked out and I explained to her how things were going to be. A month later I stopped at my parents house and my parents tried to give me shit and I just left again, after a few more tries they finally understood they could deal with me on my terms or not deal with me ever again.

Suicide is how you spare the guilty their pain. It's how you leave the world a victim. It's better to stay and be a monster, then leave and relieve everyone else of the consequences of their actions.

I still joke about suicide from time to time. Made my mother pissed when I told her mother (after my wedding) how I had a happy dream where I blew my brains out in front of her and my mother. Remembering before I put the gun against my head "I can only do this trick once."

So now I live, and the world is full of prey. Fuck the world, get yours. If it wanted all men to nice and gentle, it would treat us better. But the world is not even as kind as Dr. Frankenstein, or misguided. Instead it is cold and chaotic, and begging for pain.

Males take their own lives at nearly four times the rate of females and represent 77.9% of all suicides.

This stat right here shows that men are suffering en masse. Pretty fucking heavy realization that shows the prevalence of mental illness and loss of self worth that can happen to a lot of men.

Divorce and suicide risk:

Model 1 presents the age adjusted effects of sex on the risk of suicide. Divorced men were over eight times more likely to commit suicide than divorced women (RR = 8.36, 95% CI = 4.24 to16.38). After taking into account other factors that have been reported to contribute to suicide, divorced men still experienced much increased risks of suicide than divorced women. They were nearly 9.7 times more likely to kill themselves than comparable divorced women (RR = 9.68, 95% CI = 4.87 to 19.22). Put another way, for every divorced woman that committed suicide, over nine divorced men killed themselves.

While it may sound dramatic, I honestly believe that the TRP will end up saving men's lives by making men aware of the risks they are taking by getting married in America today. You can lose your house, your kids, your money, and if statistics are any indication, your own life.

These results dramatise the terrible consequences of being a divorced man in America, and lead to the question: why are divorced men killing themselves? Some analysts argue that the research community has ignored a plausible explanation for the excess suicide risks experienced by divorced men.

As Perrault3 and Farrell4 observe, while social, psychological, and even personal problems facing women are readily denounced, societal institutions tend to ignore or minimise male problems as evident in suicide statistics. For instance, in many jurisdictions in the US there seems to be an implicit assumption that the bond between a woman and her children is stronger than that between a man and his children. As a consequence, in a divorce settlement, custody of children is more likely to be given to the wife.

In the end, the father loses not only his marriage, but his children. The result may be anger at the court system especially in situations wherein the husband feels betrayed because it was the wife that initiated the divorce, or because the courts virtually gave away everything that was previously owned by the ex-husband or the now defunct household to the former wife. Events could spiral into resentment (toward the spouse and “the system”), bitterness, anxiety, and depression, reduced self esteem, and a sense of “life not worth living”.

As depression and poor mental health are known markers of suicide risk, it may well be that one of the fundamental reasons for the observed association between divorce and suicide in men is the impact of post divorce (court sanctioned) “arrangements”.

TRP drew me back from a horrible depression. When I discovered it, I was somewhat lost.

"I feel like I'm a boat drifting in an ocean" I said "I have no idea where to turn, where to go or what to do. And no-one is helping me".

TRP gave me sign posts & a direction.

It said to me;

"You're on your own. They will not help because they don't know how. They're too busy with their own stuff to care.

Even your friends don't know how to listen.

Here's your first sign post: buy clothes that fit.
The second: walk tall, fix your posture. 50% of being attractive is just standing up straight.
The third: Don't be afraid to lie to people with your words and actions. Pretend you have answers with a silent smile.
The fourth: know that people by nature, are selfish. They lie to you too, mostly by omission. They tell you they are your friend, invite you out but mock you. They take your naive good & kind hearted nature and kick you with words because it's fun and because you cannot fight back today.
The fifth: Give as good as you get and use the weapons of the honourable high ground and plausible deniability as they do. If they don't respect you after that, don't waste your time on them; you are merely their plaything.

These are other peoples silent expectations. This is how they see you. If you be what they expect, everything will make more sense. You will fall into the role they have already mapped out for you in their heads."

I felt poetic today.

Suicide is very common in modern industrialized society, but it is a taboo topic in mainstream media because of the fear of copycat suicides. Journalism schools literally teach this stuff and thus effectively imposing self-censorship in the news about the prevalence of suicide. I've even had similar posts to this one deleted by mods in other subreddits. Nobody wants to hear the truth about suicide, let alone male suicide.

Man, I just subbed because reading all these wonderful comments made me feel like...the shit I went through with depression (including a legit attempt that only failed because my brother found me in time) seems less...potent. Just knowing so many guys here have been through the same shit gives me a sense that I can fucking make it.

My depression has mostly abated, but it returns in different ways sometimes, for periods lasting sometimes just a few hours up to weeks on end.

Just...thanks to everyone for sharing. I discovered TRP a few months ago and just started lifting a few weeks ago; it has been great and I definitely understand why that's the first thing to do.

Beta blocking inhibitors. MD's prescribe them like a fat kid eats donuts. These "mood stabilizers" directly change your brain chemistry and when folks get off of them... Watch out. They go nuts and kill themselves and/or others.

Also, men have always killed themselves more.

Why?

Cause being a man is hard. It literally and figuratively ain't for pussies. Nuff said.

We all have the same amount of time, the time from when we first open our eyes to when we last close them. It makes little difference when we die. For some people, they have a few long days in their lives. Others have many short days. All adds up to the same, the time from when our eyes first open until they last close, is a singular unit.

My girlfriend of two years broke up with me tonight and it completely caught me off guard. It's the cherry on top of the giant turd life has served me in the past year and I'm debating just killing myself. I've got $50k in student debt but my degree is only half done, a dead end low wage job, my mother abandoned me despite making $200k a year and being able to easily help but doesn't feel like it, and I'm struggling to just get a programming job so at least I'd have something to make me happy. I really can't see life getting better for myself even though I know that at 23 I have plenty of years to turn myself around.
