I've seen a lot lately, on reddit and facebook and just about any social media, two weird and related phenomena.

The first is people's propensity to cry in reaction to something. It seems like people cry at every movie, every event. I think crying can still be manly (or at least not non-manly) in the right circumstances, and when it's infrequent; not every damn post.

The second is those same people's propensity to cover up their crying with statements like "I find I'm cutting onions every time I watch this movie" or "I think I've got something in my eye, and in my other eye too". It's as if they know crying isn't 'allowed' so they have to cover it up.

Is this more likely a case of feminization of men (crying overly much) or alpha-culture seeping its way through (covering up beta traits but simultaneously allowing them to slip through, just a little)? Or (gasp) is it the patriarchy, forcing men to cover their emotions since "real men don't cry", lol.
