Great post! Escapism is too highly promoted at the expense of growth.

The universe is expanding, there's no reason not to dance to it's tempo and expand too.

Here's to limiting escapism and living the life of eternal growth; a nomad running towards his potential!

For the naysayers against growing, our species naturally gets bored, so there isn't a choice. Unless you use escapism to deal with the boredom that inherently comes with stagnation.

news flash, we are just 1 in 7 billion people on Earth. There is a very likely chance that most of us will live average lives. Ofcourse there is nothing wrong with that but it needs to be said. If TRP teaches you anything, it is the reality of our situation. Make the best out of your life but don't beat yourself up if you don't become a churchill, gates, riess etc

That's true. I think my post is also warning against stagnancy which is the bane of masculinity.

Doing the same monotonous thing day in and day out without living an interesting life is certainly not a life to be lived.

Doing the same monotonous thing day in and day out without living an interesting life is certainly not a life to be lived.

An interesting life is subjective depending on the person you ask. I consider an interesting night reading about thermodynamics or fluid flow through a porous media yet a large portion of the population would consider my evening uneventul and boring. The truely exciting things like skydiving, snowboarding, bunjee jumping, shark wrestling etc etc are just other things that people do inorder to have more pics on facebook and show the world how exciting their life is. Sure it's interesting to do those things but its not the stuff that you do for pleasure and fun and excitement that shape you to become a great man. It's the hard stuff, the monotonous, repetative, back breaking, difficult, painful, heavy, boring as crap things that we have to break through everyday that shape our lives and internally fulfill us. A great man is a fulfilled man at the end of the day. A fulfilled man is not looking for his next fix of excitement or pleasure

I agree with /u/thick_knees. The red pill life means being the best possible version of yourself and doing what YOU want.

If thick_knees has mental orgasms from his intellectual pursuits, who can say he is wrong for investing his time in them?

I can't.

What is the source of this rant? Something you have or are experiencing? In someone you know?

[–]jkonrad0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I searched in vain for your point. Don't drink or drug?

And "rock bottom?" What is that? For an intelligent self-possessed man [Acceptable level of contentment]-1 should be enough warning that something needs to change.

Too much whining and projection in this post to even begin to consider root cause.

Sorry for the late post. So what is it about this post that is whining and projection?

''Don't drink or drug''

Nah its when they serve as tranquilizers for pain in one's life that's the problem. When they are like escapes to avoid dealing with the problem.

Buddha said, "Life is Suffering". Actually, a better translation is "To live means you must suffer". If you're going to really live, that means exposing yourself to the bad as well as the good. As Master Chief said, pain lets you know you're alive. Be thankful for pain. You do not grow without being uncomfortable.

No one likes to suffer, but it an make you a better man. Sometimes, it's the only way to make you a better man.

Needs labels. Summary/tl;dr up top, lessons learned at the bottom (if you have a lesson that you learned).
