From what I could see they weren't directly criticizing feminism, they were saying the label "feminism" was being used by any group with an axe to grind, therefore devaluing the term. So even being critical of the word can get certain people upset now? Wow.

I actually think this is part of a somewhat larger problem. At some point we decided to start admitting opinion statements as facts and feelings as reasons.

Once we have untethered any conversation from constraints of reality like that, it's pure fuckery from there on out

What's better, that TIME included the word or that it was voted to the top by internet users?That's right, "feminist" is more annoying than the words "bae", "turnt" or "kale".

What's even better than the TIME poll is Washington post's reply to said poll (emphasis mine below):

I keep trying to imagine a universe in which too many public figures declaring themselves feminists would be a bad thing. This would have to be a universe where “the issues,” as the poll vaguely mentions, no longer exist — one where women enjoy unlegislated reproductive freedom and have easy, affordable access to birth control. Women who miscarry wouldn’t be charged with homicide, as was an Iowa woman who fell down the stairs while pregnant. Women would be paid the same as men. They would be free from the threat of violence, harassment and sexual assault while going about their lives. Women would be able to rebuff a man’s advances without getting killed, as 27-year-old Detroit resident Mary Spears was last month. They would be able to participate in intellectual debates without disagreement being couched in terms of their looks or sexuality. In this universe, where women would be free to simply live their lives, “feminist” would become an antiquated term. I’d be tired of hearing it, too.

Apologizing for the results of a poll? Pathetic. "Sorry the data didn't give you the conclusion you wanted." We know not to trust any future times poll. Not that I would have.

Also, it's the height of hypocrisy for a news magazine to hold a 'words to ban' poll. Mainstream media are pro-First-Amendment for themselves, anti- for everyone else.
