Long time lurker, first post. Something I've been thinking about for a while:

Intro: The world gives you cheap dopamine rushes as an alternative to keep you content and lazy preventing you from taking real action in the real world.

Body:

Ever since the exponential growth in human population from about 1 billion to over 7 billion in about 200 years, the world has drastically changed. But the fact remains that humans have not changed much biologically. We are still very similar to the humans who lived through the caveman times. Back then you didn't have a lot of cheap fast food, porn, video games, drugs etc etc. In order to feel good you had to take action in the real world. Hunt down an animal for food, fuck a hot cave woman, etc.

The neural reward system is responsible for you to want and desire things. It's a biologically complex system that rewards you with dopamine (feel-good neurotransmitter) for doing certain things. This was very useful for humans to survive during the caveman times as it made us want palatable food (avoid being poisoned), sexual contact (so your genes can live on; survival) and etc.

Today, the world gives you easy dopamine rushes to bathe your neurons in whenever you want to. You feel horny, you watch porn and jerk off. You have a bad day, you eat 3 McChicken Deluxes and spend 4 hours playing Call of Duty. You get your dopamine rushes this way, and you make yourself feel good taking away the biological incentive to take action to make yourself feel good. You abuse the brain's reward system that evolved to help you survive and reproduce.

Stop for a moment, think and understand this concept and avoid falling to this trap. Lift weights and eat healthy.
