Why is it that professors seem to be silently giving women better grades?

I'm taking a lot of STEM classes. I have definitely noticed this after the grades are posted. That's why I only have study groups with other males. When these young ladies ask for help...we point them to the instructor.

Teacher here. In my BP days, I used to give better grades/extra points to hot female students because I didn't want them to think I was a jerk teacher. Cringe.

Funny thing, I alway gave better grades to my alpha male students (unconsciously) and didn't give a fuck about the male betas. Ha. Alpha males were always funny and shit, most of them quite smart.

Nowadays, I can't give a shit about any of them and grade them as they performed accordingly.

A finance student here, been through similar situation so here's my advice. Back off. Yes back off and do nothing about it, what you see as a small pond of mud is actually a huge ranch of pig shit. Administrative staff is working at their jobs because they are sub optimal and not preferred for more high end jobs in other places. Understand that. They like it here because they are average and so is the environment. What you wanna do is ask all the fishes to act like monkeys and climb up the tree. That's not possible, they are fishes man! They never understood more than swimming in their life. So keep up the good spirit but law low, heads down and eyes open.

This may not get a good response here, but I honestly think they're on average more studious than us. We as men see value outside of the books and are more drawn to experience life I think, whereas women can thrive in a more sedentary environment.

Some of the most studious/successful people I've known in my academic career are women, not because they're smarter, but because they are naturally better at just staying home, studying, and memorizing what they're told to think. Maybe we just question authority more, or maybe it's just cognitive dissonance on my part.

I guess it depends on the type of classroom environment, but I really didn't witness this at all.

In my senior capstone I was the project manager for my group of 5. I was the one meeting the deadlines for group assignments, I was the one in constant communication with our professor, and I was the one keeping everyone on track - because I signed up for it from the beginning. The only way our professor knew the rest of our group did jack shit was from peer reviews, but she always saw me as the one with the Type A personality getting everything done.

Be that person in group assignments and build relationships with your professors in classes without that environment. Show up to your professors' office hours at least once a month. Go discuss 2-3 questions from a test and just spend a few minutes to get to know them. I guarantee your experience will change.

I finished my last semester of 7 classes with only 1 C. I was pissed about it, but it was fair. I failed to turn in one assignment after having a discussion with the professor about why I didn't have it on time - she was going to give me an opportunity to do it. I just got bogged down with the other 6 courses to follow through, so I ended up with a 79%.

Typically I would've used my equity from the semester to get it bumped up, but it was totally fair given my incomplete on the one assignment so I didn't pursue it.

It could be a little of column A, a little of column B.

Column A: Teacher-bias. Like the previously BP teacher said below, teachers are possibly more prone to leniency for grading for women. This could be for a myriad of reasons, from the ingrained belief that women are perceived as more studious in class, the fear of the emotional ramifications -- I've not seen a man cry to his professor about grades, but have seen women do this -- or simply they follow the feminine narrative that women are being held back by the patriarchy so they give them a little boost.

Column B: The feminization of the education system. This has been talked about since at least 2000, so lets not be down-talking people who are making valid points about how well women do in school. There are plenty of women who do put the effort in and do well; but they're doing well in a system designed for them to do well. Boys are now more than ever at a disadvantage because they test better in different ways than women -- like judging a fish on its tree-climbing skills. Men and women learn in different ways; however, since the focus has been singularly on women empowerment, especially since the 1990s, the system has evolved to favor education styles that are inherently women-friendly. We are seeing the ramifications of the changes in the education system as less and less men graduate from high school and college than their female counterparts.

The solution? Like others said: keep your head down, learn to play the game. If you are able to anonymously voice this to the administration, I would take that route. But I am certain no one would care; and if it's not anonymous you'll be in a world of hurt. You would simply be branded as someone who hates women getting an education, anti-women empowerment, etc.

Because most women are so batshit crazy and insecure, that it's easier for the profs to just give them a high grade and get them to fuck off instead of dealing with their crap for another semester.

The Grade Gap is not new ... for years now, boys from kindergarten to doctorate programs have only been getting 75% of the grades for equal learning.

The real answer is if you were looking at a rich kid buying his grades or anyone else "working it". Stay in your own lane and run your own race. IN some cases, I can see where a bunch of nimrods graduating your program and giving your school and program a bad name is a direct impact on your life (and is directly de-valuing the degree you earned).

but you have to just keep your eyes on your own prize and earn what you can earn.

As for women and getting default better grades, they work it. I have noticed this but I also notice, girls don't miss classes. girls fight to be social and interact in classes. girls stop and discuss their projects and papers with the professor/TA when they are turning them in.

anything that you would figure guys call "sucking up" or "kissing ass" women can do with regularity. also, while professors, AND MOSTLY STEM PROFESSORS ... love, they just love to make you figure it out by giving you half the picture .... this is a mentoring thing. I don't think women do this out of the want to watch you succeed, but I know my professors did ... I know my work mentors did as well. every single one of them ha had a huge smile when they give me half a picture and the deadline comes up .... they lean back and ask "So what is the answer?" and you reel off "Well the question you proposed is not a legitimate answer because (blah blah blah), but if (blah blah blah) was true ... then the answer would be (blah blah blah).

I assume male professors just don't have that dynamic with females and given the scope of negative types of interactions they COULD have ... it is most likely just easier for him to spoon feed a women the general answer and move on with his life.

This. In uni one of my teachers gave my team mate an A in the class. We did the same work. I didn't get an A.
