This is probably a silly little story, but I'll tell it anyway as a good example of a shit test.

I worked with a girl in the summer: HB9, super smart, athletic, fun, solid unicorn material. Needless to say I was the beta and she was a relentless shit tester.

Our job was pretty menial and involved opening up request forms from clients and filing them. After opening one up I made the observation that the client appeared to have written his entire form in pencil crayon, rather than in pen as most of the others were. Amused at this I decided to show it to her, and after looking at it she stated that it was in fact written in pen.

Upon closer inspection I realized that the form was in fact filled out in pen. I agreed with her and said I was wrong about it.

Her: "Wow, you changed your mind. You coward haha".

After getting my bearings I realized right then and there she did not give a flying fuck about whether or not the form was filled out in pencil crayon or pen. All she wanted to do was test my strength, to see if I would capitulate to her opinion(even though it was right) in order to keep rapport. And when I failed her test she gave zero shits about rubbing it in my face and actually calling me a coward right to my face. All over the type of writing utensil some poor bugger used on his application!!!

Think you're safe at work, in the supermarket, on the bus? WRONG! They'll test you anywhere, anytime, anyplace over the stupidest, silliest things. Anything just to make sure you're not full of shit. They want to feel your strength, to know you're unmovable.
