I work with a man whose quite arrogant. I’m a student social worker, he’s a care assistant. We really don’t have all that many dealings with each other apart from saying hello in passing, so after what happened today, I’m shocked.

So, a topic about men and women came up and he said to me “I’m a feminist. No not really though, feminism is bullshit. Women say they want equal rights, but they don’t actually want them.”

I was shocked, he kept talking, and I told him he was being quite rude and asked him to leave me alone and stop talking to me. I didn’t want to get into a debate about it with someone this stupid.

This continued throughout the day, with jokes like “ah my favourite feminist” when he saw me. Eventually he started mansplaining why women don’t deserve equal rights (again) and I told him the audacity of a man to stand there and lecture me on women’s rights was shocking, I would never lecture him on his rights as a man, and could he please leave me alone. He left but not before saying “ok, but feminism is bullshit.”

I am livid. Not only was this inappropriate and unprofessional but it felt like a personal attack. I will be reporting this to my boss, but I could really use some advice about how to respond to this NVM if he does this again. Thank you.
