The biggest red flag I missed with my ex-fiancé was that my mom told me she thinks he's cheap.

He was not as stingy as the stingiest LVM I've ever dated, but over time, I realized my mom was right. On Valentine's Day, she saw his lame efforts and told me that my father had her favorite tulips from the Netherlands flown over for her on Valentine's Day, and that I deserved something more like that in my life. She also saw what he got me for my birthday and was not impressed.

I wouldn't nickel and dime him on Christmas, his birthday, or anything, and was troubled he didn't think the same of me.

My ex is not broke at all, he bragged about his investments and has a high-paying job, so there's no excuse. I wonder if he was spending his salary secretly on other things.

How generous is a HVM supposed to be? Is it okay to use my family as a benchmark?
