If you are — I think you should be reading Jordan Peterson.
The sidebar is as astounding and precise as it always was in its main material, NMMNG and WISNIFG.
For me, as somebody who grew up on cultural relativism, ideologues and then graduating that yo-yo effect between the two into spirituality and cult like adherence to a pick up way of life, I failed to address a fundamental flaw in my mental frame.
Chaos.
My adherence — and attachment to it, runs so deep into the core shadowy texture of my deep psyche that, I imagine it has some roots with a mother complex. A need for chaos, or in a more relevant phrase, a need for the feminine represented as chaos in our minds.
Reading Ayn Rand has been a fantastic help, but Jordan Peterson is addressing this chaos and “mother monogamy” as Glover briefly touches on in NMMNG.
I think Glover touches on something extremely relevant to under 30s and requires a larger treatment. Reading on structure, order, certainty and truth has been frowned upon in our current culture. Trying to bypass that foundational way of society is building a garden over a minefield. Or in more a relevant phrase, masculinity over an anti-masculine culture. If you grew up on it, my sense is that it will be like pornography addiction. Much easier to break free from if you werent exposed to it during your adolescent years; as your brains are taking shape and are much more malleable.
I’ve found that not only is this brainwashing deeper, it is also harder to break than other kinds of behaviours on the outer rims of the self. Because it isn’t a behaviour at all. It’s our understanding of reality and what’s acceptable, right or true. The very chaotic reality we fear and attempt to control because we have no truth. We have not been permitted to have it. We are only permitted an opinion, which is information in its chaotic form.
So we succumb and attempt to control not by our direct ordering of it, but by striking a deal or covert contract. A deluded, desperate attempt to manipulate order into a reality where order is socially unacceptable. Yet, yearned for.
Striking a deal allows us to avoid dealing with the fundamental axiomatic problem. The deep and original conflict between order in a society which has deemed it immoral. Of course, without using the word immoral to do so.
Or in the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “society is in conspiracy against the manhood of each man”. I experienced this deep conflict manifest in my LTR, but it runs deeper into the soul of every man and is more timeless than I had realised.
