Best man speech?

This speech isn't about you. It's not about how funny you are. It's not about being clever. It's not about your own opinions on their marriage. It's not about red pill or hypergamy truths. It's not about how wild you were in the past.

This speech is for you to say what everyone in the room will be thinking. It's about the wedding that's going on, and the marriage of two people. Think about your audience and what they can relate to. Think about the mixing of lives and personalities of the bride and groom. Think about events that lead up to this and anything that sticks out at those events. Maybe make a couple bullet points to hit on: One where the groom expressed his feelings for his now wife to you, one where they already acted like a married couple (positive story, not something idiotic like that one time they were fighting), one that had a funny moment for the bride and groom...that others can relate to (no inside jokes).

You are the beacon everyone in the room will be channeling their feelings into to pass onto the bride and groom. You are speaking for everyone else, to them. Again, it's not about you.

i've done this and MC'd a few.

I just note down points and then talk. But I do a lot of public speaking (the audience at a wedding wants you to succeed, remember that). Go for authentic. Reading notes is a bit lame if you can avoid it.

Be truthful and meaningful. Its not hard to make the audience laugh, dont try to, so just tell good stories, nothing that rock the boat or are innappropriate. Mention the bride and maybe how they met but focus on your man.

Trust me it is in the stories that are unknown to the audience but revealing of the strong character of the fellow. Make the bride proud of him.

Your joke is ok if you already have built some rep with the audience. I would not start with it though.

Don't get too drunk before your speech. Just enough to give you some confidence.

And don't forget to comment on the bridesmaids - that's part of the BM speech. They all look hot ok? Dont pick one out etc. They all look hot. Just tell the one you end up with that she is the hottest in private....

EDIT: Based on your shit show comment i would definitely leave out your joke. There is a fuckton of good material if you search google.

Yep, not about u you giving an epic speech. It's about them. Short, simple, from the heart.

99% of the people there will interpret it by the way it makes them feel and how it comes across , not on the actual words.. Assuming u don't talk about fucking the hoes and drinking , etc.

Sandwich technique:
Start out with something positive and congratulate them, then tell a little funny story bout the two of them, (how he missed her when he was out of town, how they first met, etc) and then finish it with another heart felt best wishes..

Bonus points: If there is a fountain nearby, take a coin out your pocket and flip it into the air to the fountain..as you are wishing them the best. That is your wish for them...

Guaranteed you'll be balls deep in one of the bridesmaids later that night. Ask me how i know. That's the angle u need to take, it's not about u, but it will be in the end !! Give them what they want.... Sell the lie.

Best man usually gets the envelopes to pay the vendors. Get "payment selfies" of you handing over the envelopes to the vendors. Be ready for everything to go to shit. Vendors to not show up, shit to break, bride to go missing, etc. Figure out who you can depend on to assist when stuff goes to hell, you might need a team. I did when I was best man.

Don't know what it is, but lately, the weddings I have gone to, things have gone wrong so I pitch in and help. A few years back, I was at a wedding, the kitchen was short-staffed (never got the full story), I jumped in and started running food to the guests. I pressed a buddy into service with me and we knocked it out.

On the speech, I told a story about my brother. It was slightly embarrassing for him, but had a sweet and funny ending, and I tied it to the bride and a club they are both members of. I actually got a lot of compliments on it. No matter what you do don't embarrass the bride. The audience will hate you for it.

Drop the 'next wedding' joke, absolutely, without question.

In this speech, you're allowed to make fun of 2 things - yourself, and your buddy the groom AFTER you've made fun of yourself. Jokes at the expense of the bride or anyone else are advanced shit.

After you introduce yourself, thank everyone for joining to celebrate the happy couple. Use "we" instead of "I" to make yourself a part of the larger group ("we are so happy for you both")

An easy open is to acknowledge how lovely the bride looks. Pour it on thick for a few seconds, pointing out details in her dress or appearance. Then, turn to the groom as though you're going to do the same, wait a beat, and say "Groom, well, we're all just glad you're not wearing white socks." Win win.

That's your first act, get a laugh and get some trust from the audience. 2nd act is easy. "Seeing my friend today reminds me of..." And insert the story of how you became friends, how they met, or a story that paints him in a good light. Remember the 2 people you can make fun of? Here's a good place. "I was a total nerd/jock/social outcast back then - but groom wasn't much better. That's the day I knew we'd be friends..."

Which rolls us into act 3. Emotional finale. You're gearing up for a heartfelt toast that people are going to want to remember, so your tone from here on out is going to set the expectation that you're building to something that's not a joke. "...Which is why when groom told me about bride, I knew she was special because x, y, z." If you need inspiration, you can probably copy/paste these from a post on DeadBedrooms. Throw in your buddy's good character, ..."and that's why we're all so glad to celebrate with you both today."

Other important shit:

Your champagne glass has been at your waist, not by your chest. Raise that fucker high while you finish your congratulations.

What you say is less important than how you say it. Unless it's a story about any women except the bride.

Tone and speed are crucial. You'll almost always talk too high and too fast.

Smile, but don't laugh at your own jokes.

Practice in front of a mirror. Start with notecards if you must, but don't bring those things on stage.

Bonus points for holding eye contact with bridesmaids.

Look up your nearest Toastmasters Club TODAY and ask for help - they are the gold standard when it comes to public speaking.
