I work at a job that is extremely boring and I take adderall to help me focus on my work. The problem is that adderall affects my game negatively by taking away all my "coolness". While not on adderall I have swagger, I'm somewhat disagreeable, I'm cocky, I am comfortable expressing my sexuality, and I'm socially calibrated. While on adderall I'm overly agreeable, too eager to converse, anxious about hurting other people, and just overall "too nice"; except for the comedown where I'm withdrawn and anxious.

I never require adderall as a kid. I was a troublemaker, aggressive and I would expend minimum effort to get excellent grades. When I started this job though, I'm just so bored out of my mind that my doctor agreed to give me a prescription to help me cope. The job pays very well and has great benefits. I also know for a fact that many of my coworkers take adderall to cope as well.

Now when I talk to my doctor about the negative affects he brushes them off saying that my job is unnatural for humans so taking a drug to survive is not that big a deal. But I have cognitive dissonance every day because of it. It's a vicious cycle, adderall helps me suppress my disdain for this job but it also gives me tunnel vision which prevents me from seriously pursuing alternate paths. I used to be able to do this job without it, because I was motivated by a fear of failure. I have no fear motivator anymore because I know I can dick around 80% of the time and then do an adderall/work binge to catch up all while easily surpassing my peers.

My question is mainly directed at other adderall users, and more specifically at people who have successfully quit. Do you find your game is weaker on days you take adderall? How did you quit if you did successfully?

I know this probably seems ridiculous, like why not just stop taking it or find a new job but sometime next year my boss said I can telework full time from anywhere and keep my 6 figure salary, which is a huge carrot to someone like me.

Tldr; I take adderall to cope with a boring job but it affects my life negatively except for work, especially my game, has anyone quit successfully?
