So I am a freshman in college, and apart one or two high school crushes that I only kinda escalated with, I have essentially no experience dating. Not sure why, for the most part I'm just not interested, but I also tell myself that I have better things to worry about, which is partially true, but I think is also me making excuses for being a complete social dolt.

Recently I met a girl in one of my classes who I really like. We talk a lot in class and I found her outside of class one day and managed to get her number after what I thought was a pretty good 30 minute conversation. I started texting her about 8 days ago, but she is not a big texter, so we didn't really talk all that much. So this morning I asked her to get dinner/hang out, and after what felt like ages, she replied saying that she has too much going on in her life right now, but that she would see me in class.

I don't know whether I should continue texting her, or making any sort of effort at this point, but some of my friends told me I should keep trying. I'm not sure what to do, because this is utterly paralyzing and I really do have other things that I need/want to get done. And to make matters worse, I really like her.

Do I just give it up (an appealing option) or do I continue to make an effort. I just don't want to invest more time/energy if nothing will come of it.
