A girl I recently broke up with was with another man when we met. She and I fucked for a few months while she was with him. I developed feelings for her and she for me and we wanted to be exclusive. I didn't understand it at the time because I was still new to TRP. She was branch swinging to me.

Fast forward about a year when she and I broke up, everyone, TRP and otherwise were saying to me "If she'll cheat to be with you, she'll cheat on you to be with someone else" and "You should have seen it coming since she cheated on him to be with you"

This was something I clung to in order to feel better about the breakup. To understand the red flag I missed and to pay more attention and vet properly in the future.

So here's my question.

If branch swinging is so understood and accepted as their natural hypergamous ways, what value does "If she cheats to be with you, she'll cheat on you" as a red flag even have?

Branch swinging is the understood way that things work so, instead of being able to say to myself, "ok, I'll just not date a woman who cheats to be with me", I can't use that as helpful information because, just about every woman I decide to be with is probably in the middle of swinging to me anyway. They're all going to cheat to be with me, in theory. So seeing her "Cheat to be with me" isn't even a red flag. There is nothing to take away from a woman doing that, as far as I can see.

Do any of you see my issue? I need some help sorting this thought out, I can't quite seem to grasp what I need to right now. Set me straight if you understand and have the answers I'm after. Thank you.
