Talk to some active duty Marines. If you want to know about being an officer you have to ask officers. Enlisted Marines don't know about the officer programs. You can open the door or start the process by talking to the Marine recruiter and tell him that you're interested in being an officer and ask what are the ways to become an officer. Google US Marine Officer Programs. Or check with the college you're interested in and ask about the ROTC programs. Ask your high school guidance counselor. And if you want to be an above average Marine dump your girlfriend and don't get another one until you're at least 30 years old. Single Marines are the best Marines. I spent 8 years in the Marine Corps.

I’d say uni with NROTC. The important question is, which way is better for you in terms of how it’s getting paid for. If that’s a wash then clearly it’s better to go in as an officer.

College then a branch other than the marines. Like 90% of the marines I know aren’t capable of functioning outside of the marine corps and are total shit shows when they get out. From talking to them it sounds like the issue is that the marine corps drills into their head that they have no value unless they are a marine. Once out they are kinda lost. And I’m not talking about dudes that were combat vets in the shit with ptsd problems. These are dudes that never saw combat.

Just keep in mind that if you plan on having a LTR and kids, military life is quite possibly the most incompatible one for that.

Do you want to enlist or be an officer?

If enlist, then do marines first and use the GI Bill. If officer, you need college first. The officer route is if you want a long term career in the corps.

I agree with the others, having a little age and experience before joining the marines will help. You’ll be able to distance yourself from some of the indoctrination that’s necessary to turn a bunch of goons into a capable fighting force.
