You should be at least partially interested in this advice because you want to choose a major that can lead to a career in which you're truly interested in the work. If you choose a major like computer science because it's in demand and pays well you'd want to at least have an initial interest in computers, how systems work, emerging technology, etc. You don't want to enroll in the major and hope that you enjoy computer science 3 years into college. Worse, you don't want to "stick it out", graduate, get a career and find yourself miserable for 8+ hours of your day for the rest of your working life.

The caveat to doing what you want to do is that you don't choose a major based solely upon what you want to do. You should consider a major that leads to a career that is high in demand, compensates you well enough that you're satisfied with the income you earn, and also keeps you interested and focused on a daily basis due to your passion for your career. This generally includes careers in STEM (IT) fields, business, healthcare, etc. You should also highly consider the debt/salary ratio. Is it worth it to go 100k+ in debt to have a career where the top 10% only earn 50k/year? Do the math and see how long it would take you to pay off all your debt from attending university.

My final advice to narrowing down majors is to ask yourself this question: "Do people do this major as a hobby?" i.e. Do people read history books for fun? Don't major in history. Do people cook for fun? Don't major in culinary arts. Do people paint for fun? Don't major in art. Do people play piano for fun? Don't major in music. Notice how you could find a career in all these fields simply due to your experience via your passion? Don't go into debt to get a career if experience alone can get your foot in the door.

If I could do it all over I’d want to be a data scientist. These types of jobs are only going to grow in demand and the pay will follow suit.

Don't do STEM unless you really liked or excelled at AP Calc in high school. Medical is out due to high amounts of debt. Law is difficult due to extreme competition. I would suggest business.

Of course, passion is really important in any career that you decide to do.

Accounting has been pretty solid for me. Basic math, pretty high in demand, and there is always room to grow professionally since you can study and take the CPA exam right out of college.

Do what you want to is the correct advise, imo. But people have no idea what they want these days, they are told to always keep going no matter what. 'You cant have a gap in your resume that will look bad' Thats bullshit. Do whatever you feel like until you have decided what you expect from life and what kind of person you want to be in the future. Just be careful: dont get caught in a loop of not learning or doing anything.

Also best for what?
For pay? Do some biorobotics. For easy hookups? Linguistics. It doesnt really matter. They all can get you somewhere in life (except some social sciences). You have to know where you want to end up.

OP, listen to me. If you Google this question, the best "return on investment" majors are engineering and computer science. I'm a computer engineering senior graduating next semester and the market for programmers is really high. It is quite common for a programmer to make 6 figures with experience (non-entry level job).

I strongly advise to not major in anything else (like I said, my opinion is biased but also is based on employment rates and income data from a simple google search). If you want to major in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and such, you need to get a masters degree or PHD, but for engineering a bachelors degree is fine.

My professor says that what pays and will pay well is IT and Finance-related professions. Creativity should be an asset too as it cannot be replaced by robots yet and that will be your main concern in 5 years. I study finance and think it is Gold. In the end you have a lot of experience and knowledge not to get fucked up by a bank and a degree you can use to get a job.

PS you act like a brat who got into a tantrum and demands a list of college courses yet cries because is bad at maths. Man the fuck up and get good at maths and do your research. An amoeba could do that and guess what - you will need that skill to have a job.

Here is the best advice I can give as 22 y/o cinematographer, poker player and cryptocurrency trader.

I'd pursue anything Blockchain related with an emphasis on business and invest every last penny into Ethereum once this bull run is over, it is going to absolutely change the world as we know it and we are the frontier generation. So much easy money to be had; it is ridiculous..

To anyone reading this and considering investing in ETH/market as a whole; I adamantly advocate against it (unless you are shorting) until the Tether news pans out. Basically, BitFinex (one of the largest exchanges) owns the stable-coin (theoretically tied to currency and remains at one dollar), Tether; which has disgustingly massive control over the market's speculation and their fraudulent activity is surfacing. It is apparent that billions of dollars in Tether/Bitcoin, Tether/Ethereum, etc trading pairs. are at risk and this could be detrimental to market. But despite this, Ethereum's technology and development is on trajectory to revolutionize our world economy.

Hands down Chemistry or Math. If Math is hard for you, pick an easier Math program or go with Chemistry. We'd all be dead without medicine, artificial fertilizer, ... There's a lot of money in practical chemistry. Be careful not to go too theoretical, unless you have talent for that. Why Math? Picking Math will make it easy for you to branch into computer science. As for other engineering. Reading up on life stories of engineers you will realize electrical and mechanical engineers are called into their profession, much like priests. That is, they make circuits or mechanical stuff from early age on. A degree will not substitute for those early years and lack of practical knowledge could even cause you to go jobless after finishing your degree. Computer science is something like Math-lite. From my perspective, it might be better to go for an easier math degree than CS. If you're concerned about chicks - there are a lot of them studying Chemistry and if job search goes bad, you'll be able to cook drugs.
