'askrp'
I was just about ready to give up on my marriage when I was introduced to TRP several months ago. The progress has been slow, but there's been a noticeable improvement.
I won't declare my marriage saved just yet, but at this point there's not much to lose if I fuck this up, so why not try. At the very least it's good practice for the future.
One area where I've failed to make a dent in her behavior is my personal pet peeve.
I hate being interrupted. I don't mind someone interjecting a thought into the conversation, but I can't recall the last time I had a conversation with her that she didn't full on start finishing my sentences for me. (incorrectly most of the time) Then she just starts off on her own tangent.
I've wondered if it isn't something to do with how I speak, but honestly I seldom have this problem with anyone but her.
I've been maintaining frame, but I've yet to hit on a successful strategy to deal with this.
I've confronted her about it. She apologizes very insincerely and becomes defensive.
I've just gone quiet, and cold.
She either refuses to notice, or else reacts the same as when I confront her.
I've also tried increasing my volume and continuing to talk. Same reaction, or open hostility.
I've told her how disrespectful it is, but she claims she can't tell when I'm through talking. I keep telling her, it's not rocket science. I'm done talking when my mouth stops moving and noise stops coming out of it.
If anyone could suggest a strategy for dealing with this that I have overlooked I'd be grateful.
