Last Friday I approached a girl after my show at a local bar. Chatted her up, flirted a little, then told her that I want to take her out one night. We exchanged numbers. She then asked what I was doing that night since she was going to another bar after that one and asked if I wanted to hang out. I was going to have drinks with a different chick so couldn’t do it. I told her I was busy. I texted her my name and we texted a bit and set a night to hang out (Thursday).

We didn’t talk again until the day we were supposed to hang out. This is where I probably should have at least acknowledged it earlier in the week that we were still on for tonight, but lesson learned. I texted her and asked if we were still on. Below is our text conversation:

Me: Hey, we’re still on for tonight, right?

Her: Oh, is this still a thing?

Me: What, us hanging out?

Her: Yeah, I didn’t hear from you all week so I assumed it wasn’t a thing anymore

Me: It definitely is. You still down?

Me: Come on, it’ll be fun

Her: Okay, I’ll be there

Her: Do I need to come hungry?

Me: Ok, great. No, let’s just have drinks. Eat before.

Her: Okay. I’m not really a big drinker. I thought this was going to be a dinner date so maybe we should do this another time.

Me: ok

Now, I had taken a girl out earlier this week for dinner, paid for it, and did not get anything on the date. I had made an exception to the girl earlier in the week and was reminded of why they are not good. So when it came to this girl, I began to wonder if she was just using this date as a way to get free food/drinks. I just decided to cancel it by saying ok and going out with some friends to hang and potentially meet a new girl.

So my questions are:

Should I have taken the girl out to dinner, pay for it, and hope she would put out?

Should I have taken her to dinner and split the bill?

Should I have tried to suggest a different thing to do?
