my last two LTRs eneded on reasonably neutral terms, one with her breaking up with me and the other I with her with minimal drama.. These relationships were normal and positive 99% of the time with a few minor fights and no significant issues like cheating or abuse. However, after both of these relationships ended both of these girls underwent a complete shift in their memory of the relationship. All of a sudden they were 'never' happy, I was 'always' uncaring and things were generally deeply negative the whole time. For the record I do think we both genuinely did feel the relationships were positive at the time.

Have any of you ever experienced this and do you have any theories about why it may occur? I wonder if it is some kind of psychological switch that flips turning the whole memory of the relationship on its head. I theorize that this could be an ego defence mechanism creating an easy way to justify the ending of a relationship and make it easy to move on. Anyone experienced this before?
