This is a long read. This whole situation took place in less than 15 min.

I was at a block party recently and im talking to these two girls I had all their attention, I was aware of my surroundings and I knew that at that party there was a gang that was pretty much dominating the whole party but everybody was cool with it because everyone was having fun.

So I'm talking to these two chicks and this guy steps right in front of me and starts talking to them, my first reaction was to get aggressive and step up to him because the disrespect but I noticed he was part of that gang and I was by myself at that party.

Now that I've had time to ruminate over it I could have played it off and made a joke but that probably would have lead to him trying to fight regardless.

For context, I'm a Golden Gloves champion and I won 3rd place in my highschool wrestling tournament when I was younger, I can handle myself but I know the rules of the street and no one fights fair and I would have definitely gotten jumped,stabbed or shot if I would have knocked this guy out.

I was with two guys and they wouldn't have done anything they aquiesce to these guys and that was the only reason they where invited. I was brought there with out my knowledge, I was at my house chilling drinking and they picked me up told me they where going to a BBQ me being drunk and thinking they knew what they where doing I hopped in the car.

I knew I was in shit as soon as the guy stepped in front of me because when I looked around all the guys who where wearing the same color where looking at me to see if I was going to react, after that one of the guys that was in that gang started talking to me.

He knew who I was from back in the day in school when I had beat him up and now that he was in a gang he was acting tough with me saying shit like "the only reason that happen was ..." Point is he was trying to start shit and he had informed all his friends what he was doing so I kicked into survival mode and acted like I was stupid drunk (it was believable because the rum bottle I had brought with me was half way done) I told him that whatever happened between me and him was in the past and that it was my bad if he felt some sort of way, I was really trying to deescalate the situation because I felt all the eyes on me.

He says under his breath "you a bitch" but incredulously because he thought I was gonna act like my old self and bang on his ass. He winds up leaving and I go sit in the back of my friends car laying down, two seconds later he comes back with an older guy and he points at me the dude takes a picture of me and walks off, that's when my friends come back and there like "we gotta take you home'. They drop me off and nothing came of it, later on I find out the older guy was the OG and it was his birthday , he had his family at the party and he told his gang no violence. And that no violence part was the reason they where trying to get a rise out of me, just so they had justification.

What should I have done in this situation?

Also if I was in this situation but in a safer atmosphere (bar,club, a party without criminals) what should I do?
