Im in the same situation, having a beard makes you look more manly, bitches will shit test you to see if you will listen to them by shaving. To see if it really does look bad, ask honest male friends. If your friends give their opinion, dont get mad at them for pointing a few things out, its just constructive crtitisim. There are some people who should probably wait a year or two before the beard looks good, imo.

It depends on what you're going for. Do you want to appear masculine, or do you want to look more like a boy? If you want to appear masculine, grow a beard. And a masculine man wouldn't care what others wanted, and the beard would telegraph that to women who are interested in a man like that. Bam. Now not only are you attractive to the women you're compatible with, you're filtering the ones that are a waste of your time too. And you look like an awesome man to boot.

I have a beard. I have it because I want it. I cut it how I want it. No-one's feedback on it is accepted (aside from compliments, which are the only comments I get on it).

I used to have a fairly long beard – one that could be put into a small ponytail.

Feedback from males was always positive. They really liked it or wanted to be able to grow one like it or pouted that their girlfriend/wife would never let them grow one.

Women usually responded negatively.... verbally. Usually they weren't "sure" or they'd love to see me clean shaven... Yet it was usually followed by "I'm not usually so attracted to guys who look like you." And, well, they always love how the beard feels. ;)

One might argue the beard is a great shit test passer. LOL.

I've had a beard going on 4 years now. Remember that just like everything else, ignore what people say and pay attention to what they do.

I heard these types of comments from a lot of women. The thing is though, if you take care of it (trim, condition) the opposite will happen. My beard has been a great opener to groups and having women stroke your beard because of how soft it is can be a great invitation to escalate.

Remember that how you carry yourself matters a shit ton more than whether or not you have a beard. Plenty of neckbeards and SJWs have followed the trend and grown a beard. At one point I was close to getting rid of mine because of how many wimps grew beards. Then I realized it was the weaker men trying to feign masculine strength and I learned to ignore the social trends.

If you are a strong man you can stand out from the rest of the posers. Grow the beard because you want to. Just make sure you won't have some patchy mess on your face and take care of your beard on a regular basis.

I spent 5 months growing a beard. If you're worried about women it basically goes like this: out of 10 girls, 3 will think you look like a hobo, 5 won't mind it or will find it maybe a little bit cool and 2 will be completely nuts about it. If you're in it for yourself, keep going, you won't have trouble with girls.

PS.: I just trimmed it because having a soft long beard is a little bit high-maintenance lol
