Not sure if this would be considered a complete mental breakdown, but it was definitely some type of breakdown.

For background, I’m 18 and I go to school 3.000 miles from home so have to look after myself medically for the most part, and I would consider myself pretty good at handling my emotions but recently I think they got the best of me.

So a week ago what I thought was some simple acne on my forehead turned into something way worse (still not sure what it is). It turned into almost a wound or some kind of infection and had pus coming out all day so I was instantly alarmed. Went to the urgent care and the doctor took a culture, gave me antibiotics etc and recommended a dermatologist. I was worried this entire time and just trying to keep my composure, but when he was saying all these crazy ass diseases it could be like a staph infection, shingles, or MRSA (where people die and lose limbs and shit, & this is on my forehead!) I instantly broke down crying man like I couldn’t hold that shit in anymore. He told me he thinks I’ll be alright but it could be those and he wants to be safe, but if it gets any worse to go to the ER.

I really felt like a bitch and mad at myself for breaking down like that in front of someone, but I just thought the worst and didn’t know how to react. How should I go about situations like that?? What do you guys do to keep composure?

I’m currently using a cream and treating it right now. Set up a dermatologist appt for next Monday. School nurses and other people told me they think I’ll be alright so I feel better now but I’m still sketched.
