Body language and conversational skills are essential to how others form an impression of you, especially when a woman is meeting you for the first time. If you want to stop appearing "soft", as you put it, you're going to have to learn a few things. How to compliment someone is a good starting point; ceasing to be a nice guy doesn't mean you stop giving out the niceties to people, but it does mean you are more selective and precise when you do compliment others, and you don't put people on a pedestal. Maintaining eye contact and taking control of the conversation are also good ways to subtly assert dominance in social situations.

Have stronger personal boundaries; make your opinions known firmly but not rudely. Basically don't be a pussy. You can still be a genuinely kind person without letting other people walk all over you. Don't go to endless lengths to do things for a woman who hasn't done anything for you.

On that note, if by "nice guy" you mean girls aren't interested in you and prefer to have you as a friend, some girls just won't be physically attracted or whatever. You could be aiming out of your league physically, so self-improvement is also in order.
