I've gone through stages where I lifted heavily and ate big, but I never stuck with it, preferring to exercise other ways. I've always been pretty small, about 5'8" and 145lbs now. The max I've been is around 165 after about a year of lifting. I prefer to run, and have really gotten into endurance cycling. I regularly go on 100+ mile bike rides, and have toured across the U.S. coast to coast averaging 90 per day. The level of fitness and body type required is sort of the opposite of bro-status huge upper body and narrow trunk. I attempted to get back into lifting again recently, but got bored quickly, and realized that it conflicts with my cycling goals (I'm planning to bike the length of Britain this year in 5 days unsupported). My question is, even though one doesn't have the ideal masculine body, will peak fitness and ambition otherwise make up for it, or is it all about the sculpted shoulders and chest?
