So, this isn't really related to women but more so an interaction I had with another dude. I'm still new to TRP, still working through the side bar and what not inbetween studying and work. Now, onto the story.

I was leaving town so I was dropped off at the bus terminal by my mom and sister (who is 12). As I was leaving there was a group of dudes dropping off their friend. Anyways, my sister gave me a hug and as I was boarding one of them said "do we get any hugs"?

Usually I'm not the confrontational type but that really got to me. I was more angry at the fact he was making fun of something my sister did rather than what I did. I had no shame hugging my little sister in front of them. I'm not sure why, but I also thought about TRP during this incident. I was about to let it go but then the thought of TRP and my anger sprung me into action. Basically I wasn't going to stand for someone making fun of my family, as I figure men should.

What I said next though didn't really go the way I thought.

I walked down the stairs of the bus and said "why do you want one" in a loud voice. I guess I was trying to put the spotlight on him, asking him why he's even ask such a thing. He seemed fairly surprised I came back down, but after a brief "um" he said yes and actually gave me a hug.

I kept an eye as he approached, thinking that he might go for a sucker punch or maybe even stab me. The city I live in is pretty safe, but you never know. I accepted the hug because I wasn't really sure what to do at that point. I tried "owning" it by not being awkward but it felt wrong hugging someone who essentially just laughed at my sister and I. He left with a smile and we actually shook hands, but everything I did after he said yes was basically me on autopilot.

In retrospect, I'm not happy the way it turned out and it does bother me. Should I have declined at the last minute? Should I have said something different? Does TRP even apply here, outside of a sexual strategy context? If not, I suppose some general life advice would be equally as good.

TLDR; Guy sees my younger sister and I hugging, sarcastically asks if he is going to get one, I confront him by loudly asking if he wanted one, he says yes and I accept because I wasn't sure what else to do. What could I have said or done to get the message of "don't fucking laugh at my family" across?
