Hi,

So I've been dating this one girl for a while now. She lives a few hours away but despite that we have a good time when we see each other.

We never had the exclusivity talk but she told me that she sees us as boyfriend/girlfriend since we have been dating and hooking up. When she told me this I actually thought I wouldn't mind being exclusive with her since she is pretty cool and I'd be willing to make the effort.

Anyway we are hanging out on her bed watching videos on her phone when I see a text from Brian. It pops up at the top of the screen and before it disappears I see it end with "I love you". As soon as she sees it she moves her phone away from me and tells me she should be charging her phone or some bullshit.

Now I don't know Brian or what her relationship with him is so I ask her once she's done fumbling with her phone who is Brian? She responds asking me "Ryan?"

"No, who is Brian? He just texted you"

"I don't know. I know a few Brian's."

"Is he a friend of yours?"

"No! All the Brian's I know are coworkers and they are all married and have kids".

So now I'm kind of pissed. It's worth mentioning this girl has been giving me shit about hanging out with girls I have zero interest in and telling me to hang out with less girls in general. She keeps acting confused and shows me her phone to show me there aren't any texts from Brian (hint: she deleted the text when she was fumbling with her phone).

I tell her it's getting late and I have a long drive ahead of me. I tell her I have to go. She follows me to the car and when I unlock it she hops in.

She tells me to stop acting upset. I tell her I'm not upset and that there's nothing left to talk about. She gives me a kiss and I don't kiss back. She storms off half teary eyed.

So even though I feel I did the right thing by driving away I'm wondering what if anything I could have done to diffuse the situation?

I like this girl enough that I'm willing to give her a second chance to make things right.

Advice?

Update: she talked to her coworker and turns out he was trying to text his wife with a similar name to hers but accidentally sent to her instead and she could not find the text yesterday because her phone has been acting funny
