Curious as to how you guys handle flaking in LTRs? I know during the initial dating phase it's a simple cut and move on. But how do or do things change once you've made the jump to being exclusive and you've invested into a relationship? How do you address it without coming off as needy and breaking frame?
I'm going to write about my situation, how I handled it and would like some input:
I just got out of a ltr of 7 months. I had known this girl for a couple years prior to us dating and there had always been tension between us from the moment we met but nothing happened until this past summer. Basically, I used to chase her like a dog chases a ball. I would make plans with her and 3/5 times she would bail, but it always came off as a legit excuse. Her family owns a business and she's on call.
Like a dumbass, I caught major oneitis. I still fucked other girls, some of which were actually decent women that I maybe should have paid more attention to, but they weren't "her".
It turned out that she had a really really shitty home-life. Her dad physically and verbally abused her, her mom and her brother. On top of this, her two exes were also verbally abusive and had cheated on her. As a result of all this, she had emotional issues and trust issues that she was seeking therapy for,but she didn't want to start dating me and drag me into everything. kudos to her for that I guess, but it would have been nice to fucking know. Instead, she tried to hide me away in a spot for when she was ready.
Apart from the above, which I know are all fucking huge flags, she was a actually a decent girl. Independent, loyal to a fault, managed to stay off the cc, didn't drink, didn't go downtown. She kept those personal issues out of the relationship for the most part and did her absolute best to not let them burden me or the relationship. The sex was great and I generally didn't have to wade through any bullshit.
I finally wised up and realized I had let myself turn into an orbiter.I got tired of her, cut her out of my life and didn't see or speak to her until I came back to town this past April. She was a temporary employee at my workplace. I had to see her and I had to deal with her. I acted like she didn't exist unless I needed to speak to her about something work related and she ate it up. She wen't after me hard. I had become the prize. We started dating.
Fast forward to the break-up:
Up to this point, things had gone smoothly. Despite everything above, she was a great girlfriend and I honestly have no complaints about the relationship.Even after discovering TheRed Pill these last few days, I still don't have a bad thing to say.
We occasionally had to cancel and rearrange plans but it went both ways. However, one weekend she had suggested that we go out on a few date nights and made plans together.
On Friday she bailed a couple hours before we were supposed to go out because she was tired and didn't bother to reschedule.Whatever, I went out anyways. We saw each other a lot and bailing wasn't the issue with me. What annoyed me was her not trying to reschedule.
The next day, some of her girls came to town and she made time to spend the day with them when she was supposed to be busy working on a paper for school.
We were supposed to go out on Sunday around 6 and 15 minutes before we were supposed to meet, she casually texts me asking what I'm up to. She forgot about our date night. That's strike two and now I'm pissed, but I remain calm with her. She's apologetic and suggests that she comes over after class on Monday.
Monday arrives and she's supposed to be here at 10 but she's a no show. I finally hear from her at 1. She apparently skipped class and slept in. Strike 3. I tell her I'm busy and not to bother coming over. She understands that I may be mad, but her rationale is that we see each other all the time so this weekend should be no big deal. WTF to that.
I pretty much lay it out for her. That she bailed on me 3 days straight while still making time for other people(her girls are a bunch of dumb bitches from her high school days. She complains about them all the time.) and completely ignoring the real world shit she had to deal with in her schooling. And also that this type of behaviour has been exhibited before and it shouldn't have been acceptable then and it certainly wasn't acceptable now that we were in a relationship. She trivialized the matter and basically showed me that she didn't have as much respect or value for my time as I did with hers. The conversation went no where and I simply told her that we're done. I had been played before and wasn't going to be played again.
Her attitude changed, but what's done is done and we've been apart for couple weeks with no contact.
I included as much detail as I did mainly for therapeutic reasons for myself. I guess I started this post because I was still hung up on her, but now I'm laughing my ass off at myself for ignoring all those flags and suddenly couldn't care less. It gets better from here on out.
My question after all that(ignoring the emotional baggage) is, based on her history of flaking and the fact that that behaviour resurfaced briefly, did I handle this correctly? Or would you have dealt with it differently? Given her another chance? Maybe taken a few days to think about your next move?
