"Never explain yourself" - without a doubt a very important lesson to remember.

That said, " Never explaining yourself" is too far... or is it ?

Never in my life have I EVER felt good after "explaining" things, even as minor as "why I didn't wash the plate x or y way" when my parents asked me for an answer.

Do remember - It's important to understand what kind of explaining it is.

If you are a game developer, explaining to your audience what you changed in Patch 8.11 and why is completely fine.

If a woman asks you - "Why didn't you take out the garbage bag?" - this is completely different and I advise a situation like this to be diffused by DARE'ing (Google "Always DARE" Never DEER, post gets removed if you link bad subreddits).

You also have to think about Frame and what sort of control do you have of the situation.

If you are in your apartment, and someone is constantly asking you "why this why that", then you should never explain yourself.

However, if your boss asks you "why did you decide to do x instead of y", then the rules change. You might have Frame in every other aspect of life over your boss, but in this workplace - he has the frame over you, or at the very least - power, and you know that if you don't explain yourself, you might face consequences. Even if you don't explain yourself and your Boss somehow now thinks more highly of you due to him entering your Frame, you are still not in full control over your position, even if you are buddy-buddy with him. Bottom line is - not explaining yourself here involves risk, while in the other case - it doesn't.

TL:DR: In essence - NEVER explain yourself, unless there will be consequences if you don't explain yourself and you can't afford to take. This is my view on the subject.
