I just use bar soap. Any soap is slippery.

Consider using a single blade razor and not pressing hard

Use an alcohol aftershave to disinfect. Alcohol is the best disinfectant around

Try using pre-shave oil. It changed my life. You put it on before the shaving cream for a few minutes and put the shaving cream over it. I use Badger Pre-Shave oil. It’s cheap, you don’t need to use a lot. Any oil will actually work, even coconut oil, but the ones that are designed for it have aloe and other things in it to help. I feel you man, razor burn sucks.

I am actually been very pleased with the Every Man Jack line of products. There's a pre-shave facial scrub, a shaving cream and a shaving gel, and a post-shave moisturizing lotion.

Under the left corner of my mouth I always get a light flare up every time I shave. That doesn't seem to happen with these products. I have also had great results using Banana Boat after sun lotion as both a shaving cream and a face wash.

The last thing to recommend to you that I have personally used is a Norelco oneblade. It doesn't shave as close as a regular razor, even my electric, but I still think it does a great job and because it doesn't shave quite so close it doesn't irritate the skin as much. The problem is, it's fairly expensive, and the blades are pricey as well. My local Walmart has them for $19 for a pair. I usually try to make each blade last about 3 months, so I guess that's not that bad, overall. I'm just a cheap bastard.

The best thing about the oneblade is that if I choose not to shave for 3 to 7 days I can shave with that and I don't have to deal with pulling or irritation.

I used to have the same issue with acne. It really helped when I would shave as soon as I get out of a warm shower. While you are shaving, take your time and shave with the grain to reduce irritation. After you finish, put on an aftershave that contains some alcohol to disinfect. Then, both when you go to sleep and when you wake up, clean your face with a cleanser. If you workout any, clean your face after in the locker room to remove the excess sweat and oils. Also use a lotion on your face to keep it moisturized and that will help. I use the Every Man Jack brand and that seems to work well for me.

It’s not the shaving cream. Shaving slices the tops off the acne and spreads it.

Use an electric razor.
