The real answer is don't do dinner on a first date.
The answer to YOUR question is self-preference.
I pay if they are substantially younger than I am.
If we're within a few years of each other, we split it.
If we're doing it on the regular, then we alternate.

Wrong question. Don't go for dinner. Go do something.

Go swimming. Have drinks over a game or two of pool. Take a walk with your dog. Go dancing. Play Mario Kart while sharing a box of pizza. Cook together at your place. Roam around an interesting area of town.

don't go on dinner dates, do something cost free, interactive and something to show off your skills, ie I play tennis or throw a football around with them

If you do decide to go on a dinner date, make sure you got something to do after the dinner, maybe bowling or play pool, you could pay for the dinner while she pays for the pool. Or just go for a walk and pick up icecream

You shouldn't pay for dinner for two reasons.

A) you want her to have fun with you and a dinner is an interview.

B) and more importantly, you don't want to be a chump. She will take you for one if you pay for her shit. She's not a prostitute. I don't spend more than $10 on any lay.
