Being an engineer is a beta bud badge that dries puss up real quick. The advice I've seen is to not mention your career to women. Instead, speak on the business without mentioning your role as an engineer. Speak on the travelling or cool aspects of the job. So I figure its not a big deal provided you can cover it up.

But, where shit goes downhill is that engineers spend a lot of their time being analytical and solving complex systems. We spend a ton of time thinking in our heads and coding on a machine. A large portion of our day is spent in a socially isolated zone. You need quiet to produce results.

So our profession actually sets us back significantly compared to other professions. It means that sales guys, musicians, basically any job requiring human interaction will always be ahead of us when it comes to gaming women.The nature of engineering means late hours too, taking up our free time to catch up to other people. The lack of women in the workforce has pros and cons, I'm not sure if its a net positive or negative

So, this scares me because I see it. I see the anti-social behaviour in the workspace. I see my own tendencies to be alone because I can think clearly. I want to make the most out of my free time to developing my social skills.

Is it feasible to have a second job in sales or something social? After work, I don't want to spend much of my free time isolated. Sure I can have a hobby or 2 to meet people... But is it enough?
