Thinking about getting a tattoo. Good idea?

Tattoos will go out of fashion. Scars won't. Remember those guys that keep haircuts that used to be trendy and are now ridiculously out of fashion? You'll be that guy - except you can't remove a tattoo.

But most of all, having a scar is great. It's a great conversation starter with anyone (whereas people judge you for having a tattoo). Women of all types love scars. It shows you're a risk taker.

If you want to get a tattoo then get a tattoo. Be sure to invest some time to find the ´best artist for the style you are looking for. Don't be a crook, you are going to run around with it for the rest of your life and you don't want a shitty tattoo just because you didn't want to invest $100 more.

Get a tattoo if you have a good idea for one and you're ready to spend upwards of $300 (for the smallest one).

You could get a shitty flash tattoo, but you'll get what you pay for, a flash tattoo that hundreds of other people have. It doesn't look like anything unless you then go on to fill up the rest of your body with them making your pattern unique.

Getting a "serious" tattoo is going to require research into artists, design ideas, verifying the sketch is what you want, and then $100-$200 an hour for the actual tattoo.

If you're not particularly confident about showing off the scar, feel free to cover it up with a decent tat.

I got my first tattoo yesterday (torso). I'll never regret it since it proudly represents a unique experience in my life

I got a tattoo of a guitar on my forearm to cover a scar. I like guitars.

I prefer "cool tat" to "how did you get that scar". Personal choice really.

Yeah man. A couple of my friends have tats and everytime we're around fresh girls at the bars they seem fascinated by them.

Tats have always had that 'cool-and-edgy' vibe that create the tingles in girls, but there's an ongoing debate in TRP community about whether or not to get them. In your case you have a functional reason for getting one, and if you can't pull a 'cool scar' story, it might be a good move.

if this is shooting myself in the foot considering I work white collar.

If it shows in what you wear to work/interviews you will be shooting yourself in the foot. If work doesn't/won't know about it, all good.
