Depression is a mental illness and not well understood. It affects wide spread demographics. Depression isn't the same as being sad or upset about your bad circumstances. So people with otherwise objectively good lives can suffer from it. It can be extremely confusing when you know that you are successful by many metrics yet you still feel flat, apathetic, or self loathing. Like most feelings, it can be hard to explain unless you have experienced it first hand.

It seems like you fortunately haven't experienced depression. If so that's great.

If you have, but still don't understand how someone like Tyson Fury could have it, then consider that your depression is not a symptom of your circumstances/value/ skills not being at some particular level, instead it's more a function of your own internal dialog and frame you take with yourself.

I listened to the video. His reason is clear. He abused drugs. More than likely cocaine or MDMA, which are huge causes for depression. Now it is unknown if drugs stared the depression, but if he was fucking around with his brain neurotransmitters while depressed, he would've just gone deeper and deeper into depression.

Edit: He was addicted to drugs.

Edit 2: Cocaine and alcohol.

I read his autobiography... His problems and fall from grace were self inflicted. All those talents squandered via drugs and women... No wonder the guy got depressed and became a loser.

You actually notice the shift about half way through the book. He loses the mind of a champion, and becomes a thug.

Unhealthy brains have depression. Repeated concussions can cause depression...and he's a boxer.
