Some people like the way it makes them feel(on a lot of different levels), eating/drinking are social events, it's legal and easily accessible, instant excuse for poor behavior, release from inhibition

moderation, dude. i don't like the cheap beers anymore, but i do like the craft brews, top shelf liquors, etc. usually only order 1 or 2 if out, and limit myself to non-gym days/weekends at home, with a 2 drink limit. i feel relaxed, but not drunk.

now - i've been wasted many times before, i just don't get like that anymore.

Animals crave alcohol. It's a mild poison that means water/fruit/fermented grain are otherwise safe to consume (ie, no blue green algae and not too salty/acidic). Alcohol is something we crave because of what is associated with it, and is probably built into out dna.

Yeah, you can do that while drunk tho. You don't need to run off into a quiet space for 6+ ours to calm down either.
