You never hear about sex as a focal point in therapy practise. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sex motivates people. It makes them groom, train, confront their fears, change their habits, self-analyse, and obsess over social status and personhood.

As a man, it's literally your main purpose in life - to spread your seed, get it into the most fertile and healthy woman possible, and raise a strong child who can do the same at least as effectively as you. Obviously, TRP is not focused on the latter, and typically maintains that LTRs are not worth the hassle, even if only due to the corruption of culture.

From a self-development standpoint, young men need to focus on becoming more attractive, productive, and valuable on a comtinual basis - in other words, to raise social status, or serotonin, which is the fastest (perhaps only) route out of depression.

If you state the truth in enough detail, your brain knows what to do, right?

"I'm going to the gym" "but you never spend time with me" (having done so all week).

Attempts at self-improvement are normally obvious - working on physicality, changing diet, being socially adventurous, reading (I got 'told off' for reading sometimes).

This used to happen quite frequently. Now that I put my self-development first (above the demands of my wife - and they are demands, not needs), I have a much more comfortable place in the relationship.

It's a pattern I think you'll notice in any form of toxic relationship - if they are looking out for you and genuinely care about you from the heart, self-actualisation is encouraged. If you are serving an alterior motive of theirs, such as avoiding abandonment or feeling needed, then they will block your attempts for seemingly no reason. I don't believe it is conscious choice.

It's very much an aspect of the 'beta bucks' phenomenon. Women need to feel insulated by an attached protector who will never leave her, especially due to higher opportunities, when she feels vulnerable.
