Just now at the supermarket, I paid for my groceries at the normal check out, then went to the tobacco / lotteries desk to get a phone top up (UK supermarket layout). The cashier girl said "you could have got it at the regular tills, you didn't have to come over especially"

With hindsight I could have so easily said "but then I wouldn't have an excuse to talk to YOU" and gone from there. My brain came up with it a fraction too slow and I had already with a reactive / passive response

To learn from my mistake, from now on, I'm going to make a conscious effort to practise my wits and flirting with just about anyone in a social setting. Gotta up skill to recognise situations and how to capitalise on them
