Agree, I also thing they bring tension to a long term relationship. I think as the relationship progresses, girls keep using them out of boredom and/or to try to man up their partners.

Interesting idea. How I've been responding to a lot of these is simply a chuckle, a slight smile, and strong eye contact. Basically like "You ain't fooling nobody, but it was funny" because a lot of shit tests come down to girls teasing you, in my experience. And I don't feel like I need to have an answer for everything, you know?

It basically says that the purpose of these tests is to make sure the man is still being masculine and true to his intent and purpose. It says the man should continually be ready for them, and even appreciate them, as its a sign his woman is still pushing him.

I wouldn't overthink this. Women have a tendency to nag in general, and they also have a desire to be heard rather than have their problems solved. The trick as man in a couple is to figure out which is which.
