Day game is uncommon pretty much everywhere in the West. Being able to bend the rules a bit while still coming across as socially normal (what in pickup is referred to as "calibration") is a fairly attractive quality that many women will find compelling.

Amsterdam would be great for day game. Lots of foot traffic and trendy neighbourhoods, lots of young tourists and recent arrivals/foreign students... that makes things much easier for beginners. I live in a smaller and less touristy city than you and I'm making it work even with bumbling indirect game.

If you're still feeling a lot of emotional resistance towards starting take the pressure off and do practice approaches to help reduce your AA (directions, café recommendations, etc.), and do it on people you're not attracted to at first if you find it too hard, and occasionally do contextual openers when you can think of one. Don't worry about flirting or closing at first.

Definitely. To make day game work it's easier if you have intrinsic motivation and view it as a way to build your social skills up holistically. Focus on the next sticking point (starting out the main hurdle will generally be approach anxiety) and playing the game to the best of your ability rather than getting any specific result. It can be a bit of an odyssey but it works and is worth it if you put the time and effort in in the right way.

I saw you posting about Duolingo and so I'd just like to add that if you're interested in languages then approaching tourists and foreigners becomes a lot more congruent! Some of my earlier approaches were just approaching people speaking Spanish and French and saying I wanted to practice or going up to people speaking East Asian languages and asking them what language they were speaking. Attention from a wordly local is a really nice thing you can give a tourist. None of these approaches ended in lays but a lot of them hooked very easily and gave me lots more confidence.
