I've been gaming for ~10 years, used to coach for Venusian Arts, so definitely not a newbie.
Still, last Friday I went to a bar with a friend and we approached a few sets... one of them went TERRIBLY wrong.
As in, one of the girs actually said: 'You are making us very uncomfortable, could you please leave?'
Not getting into details about the approach as that's not the point, but basically I was experimenting with high energy BT spike game but this 2-set was just chilling and on a low energy state, so I messed up because I didn't calibrate.
Long story short, after 10 minutes one of the girls asked us to leave, said our pickup was not working, that we looked like drunk teenagers (I'm 31), etc.
I said: 'alright, have a great life' and left the set with my friend, both of us laughing hard at the rejection.
We later approached other sets, bounced to a different bar, and had an amazing night.
The lesson here is: sets go wrong, it's no big deal.
If that happens to me after 10 years of game, it will CERTAINLY happen to you... Especially if you're trying out new stuff.
Don't let the fear of rejection stop you; rejection WILL happen. And so will success, as long as you don't give up.
