Direct Approach

This is when you the first thing you communicate to a woman indicates that you are romantically interested in her. This could be complimenting her physical appearance (not her style/outfit) but looks, or using a pickup line. Direct approach is best for guys who are more confident and bold.

Pros

  • Allows for intent to be known and clear
  • can save you time if she is not physically attracted to you what so ever

Cons

  • Not always ideal to use in certain situations
  • Shouldn't necessarily be used in a place you go frequently because you want to avoid getting a reputation of guy who hits on lots of women in the vicinity

Indirect Approach

This is when you reveal romantic interest in a woman at some point during a conversation other than your opening remarks. This is best for guys who aren't confident or bold enough to immediately establish romantic interest, or have not optimized their looks enough yet to get their foot in most doors. The idea here is that you build a woman's attraction through your conversational/social skills. You have to do the same thing during direct approach, but your intent is not known initially when going this route, so they are more relied on.

Pros

  • Better for guys who have not optimized their looks
  • Great for guys with good conversational and social skills
  • You know that a woman may be interested in you for something other than your looks
  • can be used if you anticipate seeing the woman again

Cons

  • Some men have a hard time escalating the conversation, establishing romantic interest, and getting to the point
  • Men can reveal unflattering information about themselves making them less attractive.
  • not best to use if you are in a hurry or if the woman you want to approach is moving.

The problem cold approach novices have is that they often summon the courage to approach women, but only have boring platonic conversations and never reveal that they are romantically interested in them. This results in them attempting to close (get a number/get a date) when doing so makes no sense, or not closing at all, which defeats the purpose of approaching the woman.
